98 CARR V GRAY

Robert Carr of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, co. Northumberland, gent v Edward Gray of Howick, co. Northumberland, esq

November 1638

Abstract

The cause of Carr's complaint against Gray remains unknown; however, he does appear to have won the counter suit, being awarded expenses in November 1638 [see cause 250].

Summary of proceedings

Dr Talbot acted as counsel for Carr and Dr Duck for Gray. On 20 November 1638 Dr Talbot delivered the libel for Robert Carr, Dr Duck dissenting. On 27 November Dr Duck was to respond to the libel in court before Sir Henry Marten. Dr Talbot was to prove the libel in the second session of next term.

Notes

Edward Gray of Howick, esq (d. 1653) was the son of Philip Gray of Howick, esq. Edward married the daughter of Martin Fenwick of Kenton. Robert Carr of Newcastle-upon-Tyne was the third son of Raphe Carr, a merchant of that town, and Isabell, daughter of Ralph Jenison, another Newcastle merchant.
