Chambers Slaughter alias Stoughton of Upper Slaughter, co. Gloucester, esq v William Arkell of Lower Slaughter, co. Gloucester
August 1640
Abstract
The origin and result of Slaughter alias Stoughton's, complaint against Arkell remains unknown as only Stoughton's bond of 13 August 1640 survives.
Initial proceedings
5/189, Plaintiff's bond
13 August 1640
Bound to 'appear in the court in the painted Chamber within the Pallace of Westminster'.
Signed by Leonard Chamberlayne (of the Middle Temple, London), gent, acting for Stoughton.
Sealed, subscribed and delivered by John Longland.
Notes
The plaintiff did not appear in the Visitation of Gloucestershire of 1623 but may have been a relative of the royalist Lieutenant-colonel John Slaughter of Slaughter, co. Gloucester. Chambers Slaughter was appointed to the commission of the peace for co. Gloucester in July 1633.
