James Risden of Buckland Brewer, co. Devon, gent v Ephraim Lambert of the same

Abstract
Risden complained that Lambert had called him 'base rascall, base gent and said all of that name were so'. In June 1635 Dr Duck decreed that Lambert should be attached for speaking scandalous words provocative of a duel, but no indication of sentence survives.
Summary of proceedings
Dr Duck acted as counsel for Risden. In June 1635 Dr Duck decreed that Ephraim Lambert should be attached in a cause of scandalous words provocative of a duel, having called Risden 'base rascall, base gent and said all of that name were so'.
Notes
James Risden (b.1602) was the son of Philip Risden of Buckland Brewer, gent, and Grace, daughter and coheir of William Abbot of Hartland.
