John Prichard of Pembrey, co. Carmarthen, gent v David Vaughan of the same, esq

February - April 1638

Abstract

Prichard complained that Vaughan had called him 'a rogue, a vagabond, a wandrer or a wandring rogue, a raskall' in the parish of Pembrey, Carmarthenshire between 1636 and 1638. The cause appeared before the court on 12 February 1638 and the libel was given on 14 April; but no further proceedings survive. [This was the countersuit to the case brought by Vaughan in November 1637: cause 660]

Prichard's family had been gentry for up to 50 years, and in the last two years, in the parish of Pembrey, Vaughan called had him 'a rogue, a vagabond, a wandrer or a wandring rogue, a raskall', or words to that effect.

Summary of proceedings

Dr Gwyn acted as counsel for Prichard with Dr Talbot for Vaughan. The cause appeared before the earl of Arundel, Lord Maltravers, the earl of Bath and Sir Henry Marten on 12 February 1638.
