534 PORTER V WARMINGTON

Richard Porter of Launcells, co. Cornwall, esq v Nicholas Warmington of Poughill, co Cornwall

January - February 1639

Abstract

In what appears to have been a parallel case to cause 532, Porter, a trained band captain, complained of being insulted before his company. In February 1639 Dr Talbot responded to his libel on behalf of Warmington and commissioners were appointed to take his witnesses' statements; but the outcome remains unknown.

Summary of proceedings

Dr Martin acted as counsel for Porter and Dr Talbot for Warmington. On 28 January 1639, Warmington was required to appear on a summons and Dr Talbot appeared on his behalf. A bond of £100 was mentioned. On 21 February 1639 Dr Talbot denied the libel so a commission was appointed to examine witnesses to prove it.

Notes

Richard Porter of Lancells was aged 44 at the Visitation of 1620. He was the son of Walter Porter and Gertrude, daughter of Richard Chamond.
