Abstract
The nature of Garter's complaint against Cole remains unknown. Cole petitioned that although the Earl Marshal had discharged Garter's cause against him and awarded Cole costs, Garter had revived his cause with similar allegations, thereby keeping him from the queen's service.

'That whereas your petitioner appeared before your Honor on Satturday last upon the falce information of one George Garter, your Honor was pleased, upon a full hearing, to discharge the cause and to decree costs to your petitioner. Yet since (as he is informed), Garter, not satisfied with your lordship's order, accuseth your petitioner in the same or the like allegacons to trouble your Honor and to put your petitioner to unjust charges and vexacon, whereby her Majestie's service is neglected.'
Petitioned that 'your lordship's former order and decree may stand, and your petitioner be discharged of further trouble and attendance.'

This may have been the George Garter of Fockerby, co. York, who, with his son Robert Garter of St Giles-in-the-Fields, co. Middlesex, were sequestered for delinquency and recusancy during the civil wars.
