Notes
The plaintiff was possibly the Robert Audley, described as of Colchester in the Essex visitation of 1634, and son of Robert Audley of Berechurch, co. Essex, esq, and Catherine, daughter of Edward Windsor, baron Windsor of Bradenham. Clavering is very close to Langley Upper Green, but if Audley was of Colchester the Maleings may have been from nearby Langley Green, just west of the city.
