147 DABSON V DWERRYHOUSE
Robert Dabson of Liverpool, co. Lancaster, gent v William Dwerryhouse of Walton on the Hill, co. Lancaster, gent
January 1636
Abstract
Dabson complained that Dwerryhouse had called him a 'base fellow' and a 'base beggarlie fellow', between March and September 1635 in Liverpool, which words were provocative of a duel. No further proceedings survive.
Initial proceedings
20/2g, Libel
Robert Dabson was an attorney in the court of Common Pleas, bailiff of the manor of West Derby, and scribe and merchant in the town of Liverpool. Between March and September last, in Liverpool, Dwerryhouse said to him, 'Thou art a base fellow, thou art a base beggarlie fellow, thou art a base fellow', which contemptuous words were provocative of a duel.
Dated 30 January 1636.
Signed by Arthur Duck.
Notes
Neither party appears in Dugdale's Visitation of Lancashire of 1664-5, but the Dwerryhouse family held lands in Walton on the Hill, in the West Derby Hundred of Lancashire.
'William Dwerryhouse, yeoman of West Derby, had in 1632 a demise of lands in Kirkdale from John Moore; in 1659 Anne Dwerryhouse, widow, was one of the executors of William Dwerryhouse, 'gentleman' deceased. The will of William Dwerryhouse, gent, was proved in 1647.
