103 CHAMBERLAYNE V DRAYTON
Edward Chamberlayne of Atherstone, co. Warwick, gent v Samuel Drayton of the same, tanner
January - April 1637
Abstract
Chamberlayne complained that Drayton had given him scandalous words provocative of a duel, for which Dr Duck delivered his petition on 28 January 1637. Drayton was required to appear in February and April following, but no further proceedings survive.
Summary of proceedings
Dr Duck, Dr Eden, Dr Tanner and Dr Talbot acted as counsel at various stages. On 28 January 1637 Dr Duck was to give the petition concerning scandalous words provocative of a duel. On 11 and 16 February 1637 Drayton was required to appear. On 29 April 1637 a certificate was introduced against Drayton
Notes
An Edward Chamberlain was mentioned in the 1619 Visitation as the son and heir of John Chamberlain of Astley, co. Warwick. There was also an Edward Chamberlain of Princethorpe, co. Warwick, described in the 1682-3 Visitation as married to Eleanor, daughter of Sir John Cave. A pedigree exists in the 1682-3 Visitation for the Draytons of Atherstone, but no Samuel Drayton was mentioned.
