Pleading: Gilbert Melton and his wife Isabel, formerly Isabel Gloucestre, widow, state that on 7 May 1417, John Assheburnam, now deceased, made a bond with Isabel, when she was a single woman, in 500m, payable at the feast of SS Peter and Paul then next. However, neither JA nor his executors have paid this sum, either to Isabel before her marriage or to the plaintiffs after their marriage, to their damage of £500. They show the bond in court, saying that it was made in London, in the parish of St Anne, Aldersgate ward.

Pleading: Defendants granted licence to imparl to quindene of Michaelmas.

Postea text: postea 1 - prior to Michaelmas term 1422 Henry V died and so in Michaelmas term 1422 JN came to this court and sought a writ of the sheriff of London to re-arrest WW to be here at the quindene of Martinmas 1422 to hear judgment. JN also sought a new writ of the sheriff of Hertfordshire to have a jury to this court in the same term.

Postea text: postea 2 - continuance between the parties as far as Easter term 1424. Plaintiff JM and defendant WW come in their own persons, as well as a jury. The jury says on oath that WW was not imprisoned at the time of the bond's making. Therefore JN is to recover the aforesaid debt and damages of 6s 8d, plus costs of 3s 4d. And upon this, JN asks that the justices increase his award for costs and the justices decide that JN is to have an additional 3s 4d for costs. Therefore, in total, JN is to recover the debt, 6s 8d damages, and 6s 8d in costs.

Pleading: John Cleye claims that Robert O. and Thomas Walsham, administrators of the goods and chattels of Richard Cleye who died intestate, unjustly detain £20 and a certain chest containing charters, writings, and other muniments. John Cleye says that on 10/05/1402 a certain Thomas Wolrich made an indenture whereby he apprenticed himself to John Cleye for a term of seven years commencing at the Nativity of St John the Baptist 1402; and by which the late Richard Cleye obliged himself to JC in £20. (The terms of the apprenticeship agreement are given at length: Thomas Wolrich was to serve John Cleye faithfully, day and night, keep the secrets of the art [of drapery], not fornicate in his master's house etc, whilst John Cleye was to have Thomas Wolrich as apprentice according to the customs of London, to provide Thomas Wolrich with food, linen and woollen vestments, shoes, a bed, and instruction in the craft excepting the first year in which the apprentice ought to find all that is necessary etc.) John Cleye says that he faithfully held to his part of the agreement, educating and providing for Thomas Wolrich etc., although Thomas Wolrich withdrew from John Cleye's service on 27/04/1403. However, the late Richard Cleye did not pay him the aforesaid £20, and nor have his administrators. Further, John Cleye says that on 01/11/1403 he gave to the late Richard Cleye for safe keeping a chest, containing a certain charter by which Giles A. granted to Richard N., father of John Cleye (whose heir John Cleye is ), one messuage and 28 acres of land in Cley-next-the-Sea in Norfolk, as well as 2 acres of meadow in Bayfield, Norfolk. A fine concerning part of which property was raised in the court of Edward III, in Easter term 1361, before justice William F. and his fellow justices; and in Trinity term 1361a case was recorded before the same justice (WF) between plaintiffs RN and his wife MN, and deforciants Roger Cokkere and his wife Isabel C., in which Roger Cokkere of Cley-next-the-Sea and his wife Isabel C. recognized the aforesaid tenement and one acre of the aforesaid land to be the right of RN and his wife Matilda N., which RN and MN had by way of the gift of Roger Cokkere and IC. Roger Cokkere and his wife IC also warranted the property against all persons etc. Also contained in the aforesaid chest were other charters, writings, and muniments. John Cleye says that the defendants refuse to return this chest. Damages concerning the aforesaid £20 debt and the detention of the chest with charters etc. are claimed at £200. One part of the aforesaid indenture of apprenticeship is presented to the court, sealed by Thomas Wolrich and Richard Cleye. Noted that the indenture does not say where it was made, but John Cleye say it was made at London etc.

Pleading: RO and Thomas Wolrich say that administration of the goods and chattels of the late Richard Cleye was granted to a certain John L. who, together with RO and TW, made administration of diverse goods and chattels of the late Richard Cleye. However, JL is not named on the writ, and so RO and TW seek judgment on the writ (concerning the aforesaid £20 debt). Concerning the supposed detention of the aforesaid chest with charters etc. RO and TW say that concerning the charters etc. contained in the aforesaid chest the process of outlawry does not apply and they seek judgment on the whole writ.

Pleading: John Cleye cannot deny that the inaccuracy of the writ concerning the aforesaid debt (of £20) and seeks licence to bring a new writ. Concerning the detention of the aforesaid chest with charters, John Cleye says that RO and TW have not responded to his suit and seeks judgment, delivery off the chest etc., and damages. The pleadings are read back to the court and understood, and the decision is that John Cleye is to have nothing for his entire writ.

Pleading: Parson John H., William R., and John Selman, executors of the will of Drew B., claim that Thomas P. owes them 43m. Parson JH, WR, and JS say that on 10/01/1412 the late DB made an indenture with TP whereby he demised at farm to TP 'all of his manor of Little Haseley, Oxfordshire, excepting a hall with attached rooms and great stable, together with wardships, marriage dues, reliefs, escheats' for a term of 12 years, commencing in the feast of Michaelmas next following the indenture's making (from Michaelmas 1412). During this period TP was to pay to the late DB 43m annually, at the feasts of Michaelmas and Easter. The plaintiffs say that TP occupied the manor of Little Maseley from the aforesaid Michaelmas 1412 for one whole year, but did not pay the aforesaid 43m farm owed to the late DB. Damages are claimed at £40. Parson JH, WR, and JS present the indenture to the court as well as letters testamentary.

Pleading: TP says that the late DB raised this 43m by way of distraint and puts himself upon the country, and parson JH, WR, and JS put themselves likewise. Order to the sheriff of Oxfordshire to make a jury come in Michaelmas term 1422.

The first bond shows that a certain Joan A. the wife of Thomas A. is held to JS in £8 17s 9d. The second bond shows that JA the wife of TA is held to JS in another £8 17s 9d. And, the third bond shows that JA the wife of TA is held to JS in a final £8 17s 10d. Damages are claimed at £40.

Pleading: RH presents these bonds to the court and says that he is prepared to deliver them with the court's decision. However, RH says that these bonds were given to him with the mutual assent of JS and JA whilst she was a single woman, only to be returned to either of them under certain conditions. RH says that he is unaware, on the part of JA, as to whether these conditions have been fulfilled. RH also says that JA was taken as wife by a certain Robert A. Therefore RH seeks that JA and RA be warned.
