APPENDIX A.
[Extract from the Will of Humfrey Cooke (vide p. 34, etc.)]
"In the Name of God Amen. The xiiijth day of March in the yere of our Lord God Ml Vc and thirty and the xxijth yere of the reigne of king Henry the eight I Humfrey Cooke Citizin and carpynter of London . . . . make . . . . this my present testament conteyning therin my last will; . . . I bequeath . . . . my body to be buried in the church of thospitall . . . . called the Savoye, before the ymage of Sainte George in the same churche." His "goodes, catalls and debtes" were to be divided into three equal parts of which his wife Alice should receive one part, he children Roger, Christeane (Russell), Humfrey, Margaret and Elizabeth one part, whilst the third portion "I reserve unto myself and myne executours . . . to and for the perfourmaunce of my legacyes and bequestes hereafter ensueyng, that is to wytte: Firste, I bequethe to the highe aulter of the parrishe church of saincte Martyne in the feeld next charing crose where I am a parishener for my tythes and oblacions by me negligently forgotten or wt holden in discharge of my soule and conscience xiijs. iiijd. sterling. Item I will that my bodye be honestly buryed as apperteyneth to my degree and my vltimum vale doon at my said parrishe churche after the discrecion of myne executours." His lands and tenements in the parishes of St. Margaret's, Westminster, and St. Martin's he left to his wife, together with "oon annuytie or annual rent of liijs iiijd sterling going out of my three tenements sett togethois besides the Xp'ofer in the said parrishe of sainte Martyne . . . . Item I will that the vicar and churchewardens of the foresaid churche . . . . shall yerely duryng xx yeres next after my decease take . . . . out of my tent callid the Xp'ofer one annuall rent of xxvjs viijd. sterlinges for and towardes the supportacion and maynteyning of the morowe masse kepte in the saide churche . . . ."

Yevyn the xviijth day of March about v. or vj. a clocke before noone of the same day. These being present, Wyllyam Skynner, vicar of sainte Martens, aforesaid . . . ." and others.
