Whereas we, the Lords and Commons in the Parliament of England assembled, have appointed and authorized John Pickering, Esquire, to repair into the Kingdom of Scotland, and there to negociate divers Businesses of Importance, concerning the Good of this Kingdom and the Kingdom of Ireland, and the Preservation of the Peace and Amity betwixt the Two Nations of England and Scotland; we do hereby desire the States of that Kingdom of Scotland, the Lords of His Majesty's Secret Council, all Judges, Magistrates, and other Officers, and all the rest of our Brethren of that Nation, whom it may concern, to further and assist the said John Pickering in Prosecution of the Business aforementioned, and such other Instructions as he shall from Time to Time receive from us; and him to protect and defend from all Impeachment, Hindrance, and Disturbance, during his Abode there, or in his Travel or Passage from Place to Place in that Kingdom, or Return into England.
