An Ordinance was brought, for making John Artber to be Captain and Keeper of the Castle and Fort of Sandisford, in the County of Dorset; and read Twice, and Agreed to; and Ordered to be (fn. 2) sent to the House of Commons for their Concurrence.
Widows Petition, for Arrears.
Upon reading the Petition of divers of poor Widows; desiring, "That some Arrears due to their Husbands, for their Service in the Parliament, may be paid them:"
It is Ordered, That this Petition be sent to the House of Commons for Concurrence.
Hampshire Officers Petition, for Arrears.
Upon reading the Petition of divers Officers which have served the Parliament at Southampton; desiring, That some of their Arrears may be paid them:"

Ordinance for Bodin and Randall to be Ministers at Bath.
An Ordinance for settling Mr. Bodin and Mr. Randall to be Ministers at Two Churches in Bath, was read the Third Time, and Agreed to; and Ordered to be sent to the House [ (fn. 2) of Commons] for their Concurrence.

A Petition of Cecill Lord Baltimore, was read.
Mortimer's Ordinance to be a Serjeant at Arms.
An Ordinance was brought in this Day, and read, for making Mr. James Mortimer Serjeant at Arms to the Committee for the Revenue.

Answer from the H. C.
Sir Edward Leech and Mr. Page return with this Answer:
That the House of Commons will speedily take the Lord Willoughbie's Business and the Petition of Hundred (fn. 3) of Wisbich, in the Isle of Ely, into Consideration.
Ordinance to continue the Pay of Sir T. Fairfax's Army.
Next, the House was adjourned into a Committee of the whole House, to take into Consideration, and to debate, the Ordinance for continuing of the Payment of the Assessment for the Army under the Command of Sir Thomas Fairefax.
The House was resumed.
And the said Ordinance was read the Third Time.
And the Question being put, "Whether to agree to this Ordinance, as it hath been now read?"
It was Resolved in the Negative.
Protest against rejecting it.
"Memorandum, That these Lords following, before the putting of the abovesaid Question, desired Leave of the House to enter their Dissents, if the Question was carried against their Vote: Which accordingly was granted, and is entered as followeth; (videlicet,)
"Their Lordships being sensible of the great Services done by the Army, and holding it just and honourable that the Officers and Soldiers there should receive Satisfaction before their Disbanding, and being very desirous the Country should have Allowance for the Free Quarter which the Army was necessitated to take for Want of Pay, as also that the Kingdom might be eased as much as may be by the discharging of all unnecessary Forces, did for these Ends desire the said Ordinance might have been passed; not knowing of any other or better Means of raising Money speedily for the said Purposes: And therefore, to clear themselves from the Inconveniencies which may arise by the not passing thereof, their Lordships have entered this their Protestation.

Upon (fn. 4) reading the Petition of divers Merchants of the City of London, trading to Virginia and other the English Plantations, against the Lord Baltimore:
It is Ordered, That the Petitioners shall bring in a Charge in Writing against the Lord Baltimore on Saturday next.

Ordered, That it is referred to all the Judges, to consider of the Case between Alderman Langham, &c. and Captain Lymbery, &c. drawn up by Consent of Counsel on both Sides; and deliver their Opinions thereupon to this House the Monday before the Beginning of the next Term: In the mean Time, all Things to stand as now they are.
