Comes Manchester.

The Earl of Warwicke reported a Paper from the Committee of the Admiralty and Cinque Ports; which was read, as follows:

Capt. Long to have 40l. in Consideration of a Wound received at Sea.

"Die Jovis, 5 die Martii, 1645.

"At the Committee of Lords and Commons for the Admiralty and Cinque Ports.

"Upon Consideration of the Petition of Jone Long, Wife to Robert Long, late Master of His Majesty's Ship The Providence, and of a Certificate from the Commissioners of the Navy, whereby it appears that the said Rob't Long did, at the Taking of One of the King's Men of War by the said Ship The Providence, in her late Service at Sea, receive a dangerous Wound, which is likely to turn to Lameness, if not to Loss of Life: This Committee conceives, that it may be a great Encouragement to Fidelity and Action, to give a considerable Reward to the said Rob't Long; and do recommend it to both Houses of Parliament, that Forty Pounds may be allowed him, for his Curing and Relief, to be paid in such a Way as the Parliament in their (fn. 1) Wisdom shall think fit."

Ordered, That this be recommended to the House of Commons, that he may have the Forty Pounds paid.

Petit and Rednes.

Ordered, That the Cause between Petitt and Rednes, &c. shall be heard, at this Bar, on the 24th of this Month.

Instructions for the Fleet to be published.

Ordered, That the Instructions for setting out Ships as Men of War shall be printed, and published by a Trumpeter; and Copies thereof be delivered to the Ambassadors and Ministers of Foreign States residing here, by the Committee for the Admiralty; and that Copies thereof be sent to the several Agents for the Parliament with Foreign States.

The Speaker acquainted the House with a Letter from the Earl of Rutland:

Letter from the E. of Rutland; with an Account of the Manner of the Army being drawn up before Newark.

"My Lords,

"Yesterday the whole Army on this Side Trent drew to their Quarters; the furthest Foot Quarters about a Mile from Newark from Trent, at Farnton; so to Houghton and Balderton, and to Trent at Winthorpe, besides the Horse Guards. The Enemy, about Three Hundred Horse and Foot, faced us; but advanced not from under Favour of their Ordnance. The Scotts Army drew up on the North Side Trent. The Soldiers are full of Courage, and very few sick. God willing, I shall omit no Time; and hope to give your Lordships a good Account of that Place. But the Public Service and your Trust reposed necessitates me to beseech your Lordships, that the Eastern Association and York may with all Speed send Money to pay their Forces.

Eastern associated Counties, &c. to pay their Forces there.

Ordered, That this Letter be communicated to the House of Commons; and desire that the Committee of the Associations may take Order for the paying of the Soldiers mentioned in the Letter.

Lilburn's Cause.

The House took into Consideration what Damages to give Lieutenant Colonel Lilborne, for the great Sufferings and Losses he hath sustained.

And it was Resolved, That he shall have Two Thousand Pounds given him, by Way of Damages.

And these Lords following are to consider how, and of whom, this Two Thousand Pounds shall be raised; and shall have Power to send for, and treat with, such Persons as are concerned in this Business; and report the same to this House:

Any Three, to meet this Day Sevennight.

Church Government.

Ordered, That the Business of the Church Government shall be the First Business To-morrow Morning; and the Lords to have Notice to be at the House.
