Letters concerning Denmark.

The Earl of Northumb. reported divers Letters from the Committee of both Kingdoms, concerning the Affairs of Denmarke; which Letters were read, as follow.

Message from the H. C. for Committees to receive an Account of the State of Affairs in Scotland, from the Scots Commissioners.

A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Sir John Clatworthy:

To desire their Lordships would name a select Committee, to meet with the Scotts Commissioners; and the House of Commons will name a proportionable Number.

Upon this, the House appointed these Lords following:

That this House hath nominated Ten Lords, to meet with a proportionable Number of the House of Commons, presently, in the Painted Chamber.

Declaration for the Earl of Carlile.

The Declaration concerning the Earl of Carlile's Island, was read, and Agreed to. (Here enter it.)

Lord Savill to be released.

Ordered, That the Lord Savill shall be released from his present Imprisonment in The Tower, giving Bail to this House as formerly was agreed upon.

Lady Stapleton's Cause.

Ordered, That the Cause of the Lady Stapilton shall be put off, to be heard the 14th of November, 1645.

Meeting with the Scots Commissioners.

The Earl of Northumb. Earl of Manchester, and the Lord North, were appointed to report what the Scotts Commissioners should offer at the next Meeting.

The House was adjourned during Pleasure; and the Committee went to meet the Committee of the House of Commons, to receive what the Scotts Commissioners should offer.

The House was resumed.

Letter from the King of Denmark, about settling Differences concerning Trade.

"Illustribus, Generosis, Nobilibus, atque Spectabilibus, sincerè gratéque Nobis Dilectis, Dominis, Proceribus, & Ordinibus, Communium Parliamenti Angliæ.

"Christianus Quartus, Dei Gratia, Daniæ, Norvegiæ, Vandalorum, Gothorumque Rex, Dux Slesvici, Holsatiæ, & Dithmarsiæ, Comes in Oldenburg & Dellmenhorst.

Singulari Favore ac Gratiâ nostrâ Regiâ præmissis, Illustres, Generosi, Nobiles, atque Spectabiles, sincerè gratéque Nobis Dilecti; quæ per spectabiles Viros Richardum Jencksum et Thomam Schynnerum, huc Ablegatos super Querelis Mercatorum, & aliis quibusdam apud Nos negotiari, vobis visum fuit Referentibus nostris, sufficienter intelleximus; atque, ut perpetuo Commercia Favore atque omnimodo Libertate alere propensissima Nobis Voluntas, neque unquam illorum Cursum & Incrementa sufflaminare Animus tulit; ita etiam in Responso quod dedimus memoratis Mandatariis vestris, abinde elucebit, Nos idem Propositum constanter tueri, neque À pristino Favore vel minimum remisse. Velitis tantum illis, quos Referentes pari Dexteritate et Fide usuros confidimus, quâ apud Nos usi fuere Fidem quam ipsi dedimus, adhibere; qua de re quum nulli dubitemus, hic susius agere supersedemus, Deo vos commendantes.

Declaration, that the Earl of Carlisle's Sequestration is taken off, and to establish his Right in The Caribee Islands.

"Whereas the Right Honourable James Earl of Carlile, being, by several Letters Patents under the Great Seal of England, made Lord and Proprietor of The Caribee Islands, or Province of Carlile, who, coming in, and conformed himself to the Parliament, according to a Declaration in that Behalf made, upon which the Sequestration of his Estate was taken off in all Places whatsoever, as appears by an Ordinance of both Houses in that Behalf made; yet, notwithstanding, certain Persons (as the House is this Day informed) have (pretending to be sent with Commissions for the Government of the said Islands) laboured to out the Governors there now legally settled by the said Earl by virtue of his said Letters Patents, which may cause Disturbance to the Inhabitants, which hitherto have remained in Quiet, following their Callings; and for that the said Earl is now sending a Commission over into the said Islands, for the regulating his Revenue, and settling the Inhabitants thereof in a more happy and secure Condition (fn. 1) than at present they are in; and for the avoiding of all Doubts and Scruples which may any Ways arise in any of the Inhabitants of the said Islands, touching the said Earl, or his Interest in the Premises: It is Manifested and Declared, by the Lords assembled in Parliament, That, the said Sequestration of the said Earl being taken off as aforesaid, he standeth in the same Condition with other Peers of this Realm, both for the Privilege of his Person and Estate; and that, he being Lord and Proprietor of the said Province as aforesaid, all Manner of Powers, Profits, Privileges, and Authorities, incident and belonging to the Lord and Proprietor of the said Islands, do belong unto him, notwithstanding any Thing that may be objected to the contrary; of which, all the Planters and Inhabitants of the said Islands are to take Notice, and yield their Obedience to him and his just Commands, and to such Governors as is or may be placed by him in the said Islands, according to the Authority given him by the said Letters Patents, as they will answer the contrary to this House."
