De La Salle to have his Letters.
Ordered, That Mr. De La Salles shall from Time [ (fn. 2) to Time] have his Letters delivered to him by the Post-master as usually, until this House gives further Directions to the contrary.
Balance due on the Accompts of the old Commissioners of the Customs, to be appropriated to the Navy.
"Ordered, by the Lords and Commons in Parliament assembled, That what Sum or Sums of Money shall be found due, by the Committee of Accompts, upon the State of the Accompts of the old Commissioners of the Customs, be appointed towards the Satisfaction, in a proportionable Way, of the Arrears due to the several Owners of Shipping set forth in the State's Service by the Parliament, till the last of September, 1644; which Monies are, by Order of the Committee of the Navy, to be employed to those Uses only."
Mr. Chandler's Ordinance.
Next, the Ordinance for Mr. Chandler and others, that lent Monies in Ireland to the Parliament's Commissioners there, to be paid by the Committee of Accompts, was read, and Agreed to. (Here enter.)
Fees to the Officers of the House, for Private Business.
Ordered, That the Committee for Privileges, or any Three of them, shall meet on Monday next, in the Afternoon, and consider of what Fees shall be allowed to be paid to the Officers of this House, by Persons that have Private Benefit by Ordinances that pass in this House; and to report the same to this House.
And the Earl of Nottingham is added to be of this Committee.
Upon Information to this House, by a Letter from the Mayor of Sandwich, "That one Francis Church, of Wickham Brookes, Yeoman, hath spoken dangerous Words touching the King:" Hereupon this House Ordered, That the said Church shall be brought up in safe Custody to this House, and then the House will give further Directions herein.
Printer of a scandalous Pamphlet, called The Parliament Scout, &c. reflecting on the Lord General, to be attached.
Complaint was made to this House, of a scandalous Pamphlet, that is printed and published, intituled, "The Parliament Scout, communicating his Intelligence to the Kingdom;" wherein (fn. 3) is a great Defamation of the Honour of the Lord General: Hereupon this House Ordered, That the Master and Wardens of the Stationers Company shall use all Care and Diligence, to find out the Printer of the said Book, and keep him in safe Custody, and bring him before the Lords in Parliament To-morrow Morning, to answer the same, and to the Intent to discover who he had the Copy of; and that the said Master and Wardens shall have hereby Power to seize upon as many of these Books as they [ (fn. 4) can light] upon; and none be sold from henceforth by any Person: And if the Printer can discover the Author, then he is to be taken into Custody, and brought before this House.
Ordinance for the Army to be under the Command of Sir Thomas Fairfax.
Ordered, That this House will take into Consideration the Ordinance (fn. 3) for the Army to be under the Command of Sir Thomas Fairefaix, To-morrow Morning; and that all the Lords shall have Notice to be present (fn. 5) at the same Time.
Withering's Cause.
Upon reading the Examinations taken at Dover, by Sir Edward Boyce, at Dover Castle, in the Office of the Court of Admiralty, concerning a Business of Thomas Witherings, touching Seventy-five Pieces of Hounscott Sayes, which are detained from him: And it is Ordered, That the said Depositions shall be shewed to the Spanish Ambassador by the Earl of Stamford, who is, in the Name of the House, to demand Satisfaction, in Behalf of the said Witherings.
Legg versus Symons.
Upon reading the Petition of Jonas Legg, of Colchester, against one Edward Symons: It is Ordered, That Symons shall have a Copy of the Petition, and return his Answer to this House, why the Prayer of the Petitioner should not be granted within Three Days.
Doctor Bennet, Leave to be absent.
Ordered, That Doctor Bennett hath Liberty to be absent from this (fn. 3) House, until his Health (fn. 3) is better; and that he shall have the Privilege of the House, as an Assistant.
Order for Mr. Chandler & al. that lent Monies in Ireland to the Parliament's Committees, to be paid by the Committee for Accompts.
"Ordered, by the Lords and Commons assembled in Parliament, That the Monies due to Richard Chandler and Ward, of London, Merchants, and Ridgley Hatfeild, of Dublin, Merchant, be satisfied and paid unto them; (videlicet), to Rich'd Chandler, Four Hundred and Thirty Pounds; Mr. Ward, One Hundred; Ridgley Hatfeild, One Hundred and Sixty Pounds; with Consideration from the Time lent, until the said Six Hundred Fourscore and Ten Pounds be satisfied and paid, by the Chamber of London, or any other Receiver of such Money that shall be found in Arrears by the Committee of Accompts, next after such Monies as are already assigned to be paid by that Committee."
