Answer from H. C.

Sir Edward Leech and Dr. Aylett, sent Yesterday to the House of Commons with a Message, return with this Answer:

That they have appointed their Committee to meet the Lords Committee on Monday Morning, about the Paper of The States Ambassadors, concerning Ships that have been taken by the Ships in the Parliament Service.

Serjeant Glanvile's Goods not to be seized, till he has received his Trial.

The Petition of Serjeant Glanvile was read; desiring, "That, before he be convicted, no Confiscation or Disposal of his Goods may be made." (Here enter it.)

Hereupon this House Ordered, That his Goods and Household-stuff shall not be seized, nor embezzled, nor disposed of, until he receive his Trial by this House.

Report of Ld. Rich's Examination.

The Earl of Northumb. reported, "That the Committee have examined the Lord Rich; and the Questions and his Answer were read, as followeth:

"1 Question. Whither he was going when Sir Wm. Waller's Scouts met with him?

"1 Answer. He answered, He was coming towards London, and intended to lie at Marlow that Night.

"2 Question. Whether he acquainted any Man, either here or there, with his Intentions of leaving the King's Quarters?

"2 Answer. He answered, He acquainted no Man at Oxford with his coming away from thence; but he acquainted his Brother Mr. Charles Rich with his Resolutions, at Reading, Three Months ago, or thereabouts.

"3 Question. Whether he had any Pass?

"3 Answer. He answered, He had no Pass for his coming away; but he desired his Brother to procure him one.

"4 Question. Why he came not in within the Time limited by the Declaration of both Kingdoms?

"4 Answer. He answered, He came not in within the Time limited in the Declaration, because he expected every Hour to hear from his Brother, to send him a Pass.

"5 Question. Whether he can acquaint the Parliament with any Thing that may be of Advantage, and fit for their Knowledge?

"5 Answer. He answered, He knows nothing of the Condition of the King's Army; but, concerning the Town of Oxford, there are Three or Four Thousand Men in Garrison there; and the Marquis of Hertford, Earl South'ton, Earl Dover, Lord Cottington, and Lord Dunsemore, and others, are there."

Lord Rich relased.

Hereupon this House Ordered, That the Lord Rich shall be forthwith discharged and released from his present Restraint under the Gentleman Usher; provided he engage his Word upon his Honour to this House, that he will not go out of the Line of Communication without Leave of the House; and that he shall appear before this House when he shall be summoned thereunto.

Ordinance for Martial Law.

Next, the Earl of Nortbumb. reported, "That the Committee hath considered of the Ordinance concerning Martial Law; and they have made some Alterations and Amendments, which they offer to the Consideration of the House:" Which were read; and the House, taking the same into Debate, agreed to the said Ordinance, leaving out some of those Alterations, and adding others.
