2. An Order to pay Five Hundred Pounds, for the Security of the Isles of Jersey and Guernsey.

(fn. 1) 3. An Order concerning the Town of Lynn, for Restitution to be made to the well-affected there that have been damnified.

Ordered, To be committed.

4. An Order to pay to Sir Jo. Meldrum Four Hundred Pounds, out of the Excise at Bury.

This House thought it not fit to charge the Excise with this Money.

5. An Order to pay One Thousand Pounds to Sir Rob't Harley.

This House was informed, "That Sir Rob't Harley hath in his Hands Silver Wire of Mr. Mynn's; and, if he will not redeem it, Sir Rob't may make Sale of the said Wire, and pay himself, which is worth Two Thousand Five Hundred Pounds."

6. An Order for making Mr. Walter Longe Register of the Court of Chancery, which was passed the House of Commons before the Message of this House came to them, to refer the Nomination of Officers to the Commissioners of the Great Seal. (Here enter it.)

Resolved, upon the Question, That this House agrees with the House of Commons in this Order.

7. An Order for making Joseph Widdmerpoole, Charles White, and Thomas Salisbury, to be added to the Committee for the Town and County of Nottingham.

8. Eight several Latin Letters of Credence, to be sent to several Foreign States, wherein they desire their Lordships Concurrence; and that they may be signed by the Speakers of both Houses.

That this House will send an Answer, by Messengers of their own, concerning the Orders concerning Lynn, Sir John Meldrum, and Sir Rob't Harley Knight; to all the rest of this Message, this House agrees with the House of Commons therein.

Henry Forstall to take upon him the Mayoralty of Sandwich.

"It is Ordered, That Henry Forstall Esquire do, immediately after Sight hereof, take the Mayor's Place of Sandwich upon him, according to the Election lately made of him by the Town, at his Peril; and that the wonted Salary belonging to the said Place be paid unto him; and the Watches and Wards of the Town be duely kept and observed by the Townsmen themselves, in their Persons; and that the Captains of the said Watch be such Men as shall be known to be faithful to the King and Parliament, and approved of by the Mayor and Four of his Brethren at least."

Pettus and Ayliff.

Ordered, That the Cause of Mrs. Pettus shall be deferred until Saturday next.

1. To let their Lordships know, that the House of Commons have resolved to adjourn until Saturday next, in regard of some important Business.

Mr. Pym to be examined, concerning L. Wharton's Complaint.

Ordered, The former Committee of Four Lords shall, with a proportionable Number of the House of Commons, go to examine Mr. Pim, concerning the Lord Wharton's Business; and that the Clerk of the Parliament shall give him his Oath.

Message to the H. C. about it.

A Message was sent to the House of Commons, by Serjeant Whitfeild and Dr. Aylett:

To let them know, that this House hath nominated Four Lords, to examine Mr. Pym, concerning the Lord Wharton's Business; and to desire (fn. 4) their House to appoint a proportionable Number; and that the said Committee may go to Mr. Pym's House to examine him, he being sick; and that their Lordships have Ordered the Clerk of the Parliament to give him his Oath.

Answer to their Message.

The Answer returned to the Messengers of the House of Commons was:

That this House will adjourn likewise until Saturday next, at Ten of the Clock; and that this House agrees to the adding of the Persons to the Committee for the County of Staff.

"An Ordinance of the Lords and Commons, to make Robert Earl of Warwick Lord High Admiral of England.

Ordinance to appoint the E. of Warwick Lord High Admiral of England.

"The Lords and Commons now assembled in Parliament, taking into Consideration the great and faithful Services done to the King and Parliament by Robert Earl of Warwick, both by Sea and Land, and his great Experience, Judgement, and Fidelity, in Maritime Affairs, do Order and Ordain, That the said Robert Earl of Warwick shall be Lord High Admiral of England, &c. And they do hereby Ordain and Establish him the said Robert Earl of Warwick Lord High Admiral of England, Ireland, and Wales, and the Dominions and Isles of the same, of the Town of Callice and Marches thereof, of Normandy, Gascoigne, and Gwines, and Captain General of His Majesty's Seas and Navy Royal; and they do hereby give him full Power and Authority, in his own Name, and under his own Seal, as Lord High Admiral of England, &c. to issue, out of the High Court of Admiralty, Warrants and Writs for the arresting of Ships and Persons, in all Maritime and Civil Causes; and to constitute and appoint Vice Admirals, Judges, Registers, Marshals, and all other Officers requisite and necessary for the Judicatures for Civil and Maritime Causes, and Captains, Masters, Pursers, Gunners, and all other Officers requisite and necessary for the Navy; and to do and execute all other Things belonging and appertaining to the Office of Lord High Admiral of England, Ireland, and Wales, in as full and ample Manner as ever any Lord High Admiral formerly did, might, or ought to have done; to have and to hold the said Office of Lord High Admiral of England, Ireland, Wales, &c. with all Fees, Profits, Rights, and Emoluments, thereunto belonging and appertaining, until the said Office shall be otherwise settled or disposed by both Houses of Parliament: And the said Lords and Commons do hereby further Order and Ordain, That the said Robert Earl of Warwick, and all Vice Admirals, Judges, Registers, Marshals, Captains, Masters, and other Officers of Ships, and all others acting under him in the said Office, shall be by them saved harmless and indemnified, for all Acts that they shall do according to their several Offices: And finally the said Lords and Commons do hereby Order and Ordain, That a Patent shall be drawn of the said Office of Lord High Admiral of England, Ireland, and Wales, in Manner and Form accustomed, and according to this Ordinance, in His Majesty's Name, for the said Robert Earl of Warwick, and sealed and passed under the Great Seal of England by the Commissioners lately established by the said Lords and Commons, who are required, and shall be hereby warranted, to seal the same; and, in the mean Time, the said Robert Earl of Warwick shall be and execute the Place of High Admiral of England, as is before Declared.

"And forasmuch as Algernoone Earl of Northumberland was displaced by His Majesty from being Lord High Admiral of England for his Obedience to the Commands of both Houses of Parliament, the Lords and Commons do therefore Declare, That, by this Ordinance, they do not weaken their Intentions, expressed in their Declaration of the 11th of July, 1642, concerning the said Earl of Northumberland; but will perform them in such a Way as by the Wisdom of both Houses shall be thought fit."

Order for Mr. Long to be Register of the Chancery.

"It is this Day Ordered, by the Lords and Commons assembled in Parliament, That Walter Longe Esquire, a Member of the House of Commons, be nominated, appointed, and constituted, Register of the Chancery, to execute the Place of Register, and to receive the Profits, Emoluments, and Advantages, belonging unto it, in as full and ample Manner as any Register formerly ever did, might, or ought, to receive them."

Order for 500l. for Defence of Jersey, &c.

"It is this Day Ordered, by the Lords and Commons in Parliament assembled, That Five Hundred Pounds of the Monies at Habberdash'rs Hall be forthwith paid to the Treasurers at Guildhall, London, and by them paid over to Sir Guilbert Gerrard Treasurer at Wars, who is hereby Ordered to pay the same to Captain Crauley; who is hereby required forthwith to dispose the same for the Security of the Islands of Guernsey and Jersey, and making Provisions for the same."

Additional Sequestrators for Nottingham.

"It is this Day Ordered, by the Lords and Commons in Parliament assembled, That Joseph Widdmerpoole, Charles White, and Thomas Salisbury, Esquires; be added to the Committee for Sequestrations for the Town and County of Nottingham; and to have as full and ample Power as any of the other Committees formerly appointed by the Ordinance have."
