Jennings and Dawes.
Ordered, That Mr. Jennings Cause, between him and Sir Tho. Dawes, shall be deferred, to be heard on Tuesday next come Sevennight.
Sir William Walier's Army, a Victory over the King's Forces near Winchester.
A Letter of Sir W'm Balfore, to the Lord General, was read, being a Narrative of the good Success of Sir W'm Waller's Army against the King's Forces, near Winchester.
The Lords, taking this good Success into Consideration, made this Order following; and Resolved, to send to the House of Commons, to desire their Concurrence therein; videlicet,
Order for a Public Thanksgiving for it.
The Lords and Commons in Parliament assembled, having certain Information of the great Mercy of our good God, in the happy Success of the Forces of the Parliament, under the Command of Sir Wm. Waller and Sir Wm. Balfore, on Friday last, the 29th of March, 1644, do, in their Acknowledgement of God's Mercy herein, Order, That, upon the Lordsday which will be on the 14th of this Instant April, Public Thanksgiving be in all Churches and Chapels on the South Side of Trent, within the Power of the Parliament, unto the Lord of Hosts, that giveth all Victory, for this seasonable and extraordinary Blessing, whereby the Army under the Command of Sir Ralph Hopton was totally routed, with the Loss of very few of the Parliament Forces; and all Ministers, in their respective Churches and Chapels, are hereby directed and commanded to give Notice hereof, and to exhort and excite their People to acknowledge and improve this great Blessing in a Spiritual Way, that, as this Mercy was bestowed in Return of our Prayers and Humiliation upon the late Solemn Fast the Wednesday before this Victory, so God may have the sole Honour and Glory of it in our Prayers and Thanksgiving; and that the like Thanksgiving shall be made on the North Side of Trent Fourteen Days after, which will be on the 28th of this Instant April."
Message to the H. C. for their Concurrence in it;
A Message was sent to the House of Commons, by Sir Rob't Rich and Mr. Page; which consisted of these Particulars following:
1. To desire their Concurrence in the Order for a Day of Thanksgiving to God, for the good Success of Sir W'm Waller's Army.
that the Lords agree to Two Ordinances;
2. To let them know, that this House agrees to the Ordinance concerning Sir W'm Waller.
3. That this House agrees to the Ordinance concerning North'ton, with the small Addition.
concerning the E. of Nottingham's Petition; and an Answer to the Prince Elector.
4. To put them in Mind of the Petition of the Earl of Nottingham.
5. To put them in Mind of giving an Answer to the Prince Elector's Letter; but this Particular is to be delivered To-morrow Morning to the House of Commons.
Adjourn.
