PRAYERS.

Abbreviation of Michaelmas Term.

A Message brought up from the House of Commons, by Mr. Arthur Goodwin, who delivered the Bill for the Abbreviation of Michaelmas Term, which the House of Commons have passed, with the Amendments; and he further desired their Lordships, from the Commons, to take into Consideration, as soon as conveniently they can, the Bill concerning the restraining of Bishops, and Clergy in Holy Orders, to intermeddle in Secular Matters.

Bills passed.

After this, His Majesty came into the House, and seated Himself in His Chair of State: The Lords being in their Robes, sitting uncovered, the House of Commons were sent for; who being come, their Speaker made a short Speech; and then presented to His Majesty a Bill, intituled, "An Act for the further Relief of His Majesty's Army, and the Northern Parts of this Kingdom;" which, together with Two other Bills, One intituled, "An Act for the better pressing and levying of Mariners and others for His Majesty's Service;" the other, "An Act for Abbreviating and Limiting of Michaelmas Term," passed the Royal Assent; the Clerk of the Crown reading the Titles severally, and the Clerk of the Parliament pronouncing the King's Assent.

King delivers a Paper concerning draining the Fens.

This being done, the Commons went to their own House; and then the King delivered a Paper to the House, concerning the draining of the Fens, with Recommendations, as being a Business much concerning the Good of the Kingdom. Which Paper being read after His Majesty was gone; it was committed to these Lords: videlicet,

Their Lordships, or any Nine or more of them, to meet on Tuesday next, in the Afternoon, at Three a Clock, in the Painted Chamber.

Committee for Defence of the Kingdom.

Ordered, That the Committee for the Defence of the Kingdom is deferred until Saturday next in the Afternoon.

Bill for restraining Bishops, &c. from intermedding in Secular Affairs.

Hodie 2^a vice lecta est Billa, An Act for restraining of Bishops, and others in Holy Orders, from intermeddling with any Secular Affairs; and Ordered to be debated on Thursday Morning next, by a Committee of the whole House.

Dr. Cosens's Cause put off.

Ordered, That the Impeachment against Dr. Cosens and others be read To-morrow Morning, and the Parties to have Notice to attend this House.

Beaumout & al. versus Abbott.

Whereas an Order was made the 10th of this Instant, in a Cause between Jo. Beamount (fn. 1) and others, Clothiers, Plaintiffs (Creditors of Edward Abbott), and Sir Maurice Abbott and others, Defendants; which their Lordships conceived not to be fully expressed in some Particulars; it is thought fit, and so Ordered, That as well the Goods assigned to Sir Maurice Abbott, George Abbott, and Maurice Abbott, Sons of the said Sir Mor. Abbott, as also all other the Estate of the said Edward Abbott, shall be put into safe Hands, that it may be distributed according to Law.

E. of Cleveland's Bill.

Ordered, That the Committee for the Earl of Cleveland's Bill do sit on Monday next in the Afternoon; and Mr. Vaughan's Petition to be heard then.

Committee for the Starchamber.

Ordered, That the Lords Committees for the Starchamber do meet on Saturday the 22d of this Instant May, to hear the Counsel speak concerning the Jurisdiction of that Court; at which Time Mr. Hackwell and Mr. Hayles are to attend their Lordships concerning that Business.

Nothing to be printed concerning the Trial of the E. of Strafford but with Leave of the House.

(fn. 2) Ordered, That no Man shall presume to print any Thing of the Proceedings against the Earl of Strafforde, but by the Permission and Leave of this House first obtained; and in Case any Man hath already printed Part of the said Proceedings, it shall and may be lawful for the Master and Wardens of the Stationers, and their Officers, to seize the same into their Custody, and bring them into this House.

(fn. 2) Ordered, That Mr. Jesope do bring in his Notes, which he took of the Proceedings against the Earl of Strafforde, and attend the Lords Committees for Privileges with them on Monday next in the Afternoon, who are to peruse them.

Inhabitants of Kensington versus Mr. Elkins, their Vicar.

Upon reading the Petition of the Inhabitants of Kensington, concerning Mr. Elkins their Vicar; It was Ordered, That the Cause is referred to (fn. 3) the Lords Committees for Petitions, to be heard on Tuesday next, at Two a Clock, in the Painted Chamber; and that the Parties interested in the Cause, and such Witnesses as are to be produced, are to attend at the Time aforesaid; and the Articles heretofore drawn up and subscribed against the said Mr. Elkins to be delivered unto the Clerk of the Parliament.

Dr. Walker's Order to have 1250£. of Sir Jo. Lamb.

Whereas this House was this Day informed, "That Sir Jo. Lambe refused or neglected to pay, or cause to be paid, or sufficiently secured, unto Walter Walker, Doctor in Law, the Sum of Twelve Hundred and Fifty Pounds, awarded unto him by Order of this House, dated the 12th of April last past by Way of Damages;" it was thought fit, and so Ordered, That the said Order shall be confirmed in all Points; and that Sir John Lambe shall, upon Sight hereof, perform, fulfil, and obey the said Order of the 12th of April last, in all Points; and that he shall, without any Manner of Delay, satisfy, content, and pay unto the said Dr. Walker, the full Sum of Twelve Hundred and Fifty Pounds, or otherwise give him such sufficient Security, and at such reasonable Days and Times, as he the said Dr. Walker shall well like of; and herein the said Sir John Lambe is to obey and perform this Order in all Points, as he will answer the contrary unto this House.

Order for Sir Robert Mansell, concerning the making of Glass.

Upon reading the Petition of Sir Robert Mansell, Knight, it was Ordered, That his Grant from His Majesty, by Lease, for the sole making of Gluss in England, shall not hereby be any ways impeached or diminished; but that it shall be and remain in fall Power and Force, as formerly it hath been, until the Parliament shall order the contrary; but the Abuses offered unto him, and complained of in his Petition, shall be referred to the Examination of the Lords Committees for Petitions; and that Tho. Pate, Wm. Kirby, Richard Batson, Wm. Sadler, Francis Lodge, Edward Lewine, and Walter Samon, shall attend the said Hearing.

Dickenson versus Gratwicke.

Ordered, That the Cause between Linning Dickenson and Tho. Gratwicke shall be heard before the Lords Committees for Petitions, on Tuesday come Fortnight, being the Fifth Day of June.

Absent Lords excused.

Earl of Monmouth was excused for being absent, his Mother sick.

Earl Nottingham sick, excused.

Lord North had Leave to be absent for a Time.

Nash versus Kynaston in Erros.

Upon reading the Petitions of Charles Kynaston, Defendant, and Tho. Nash, Plaintiff, it was Ordered, That the Judges of the King's Bench shall examine and fully inform themselves of any Misdemeanour, or Miscarriage, of an original Writ, concerning a Writ of Error between Nash and Kynaston, depending in this House; and to make Report thereof to this House; and then their Lordships will proceed in the Business according to Justice.

Rioters sent for concerning the Fens in Lincolnshire.

Ordered, That Richard Pell, Henry Browne, Jo. Clay, William Roberts, Richard Roberts, William Booth, William Claye, Thomas Abbott, and Anthony Nicholas, be sent for, by the Gentleman Usher attending this House, to answer their Disobedience to an Order made the Seventeenth of April last past, concerning the Fens in Lincolneshire, in the Possession of the Lord Great Chamberlain and his Participants; but, if the Parties aforesaid will submit unto the Lord Great Chamberlain, then they are not to be sent for.
