A Message from the House of Commons, by Mr. Hide, to this Effect:

Message from H. C. for that they are informed the E. of Strafford is endearouring to make his Escape.

That they have received Information, and have Reasons to believe it to be true, "That the Earl of Strafford intends to make an Escape out of The Tower; and that there are Ships, or a Ship, ready in the River of Thames, at Tilbury-hope, to convey him away;" and further they are informed, "that the Doors of The Tower are not well guarded:" Therefore they desire their Lordships would take Order that the Earl of Strafford may be close Prisoner, and to have The Tower better guarded than now it is.

The Answer returned to the House of Commons, concerning this Message, was:

Order taken to prevent it.

That their Lordships have already charged the Lieutenant of The Tower to take great Care for the safe Custody of the Earl of Strafford, and to increase the Strength for guarding of The Tower and the Doors, as he shall see Occasion, who hath undertaken for him; and that their Lordships will examine the Truth of this Information with the best Care they can.

The Lieutenant of The Tower was sent for, to attend this House presently.

Mr. Maxwell was sent to enquire of Mr. Hide, privately, the Name and Owner of the Ship, and the Master's Name; and he brought this Account: "That Mr. Slingsby is Owner of the Ship now lying in Tilburyhope; that Edward Clem tsis the Master thereof; and that One Robert Clem ts, a Mast-maker in Wapping, can give more certain Directions."

Hereupon it was Ordered, That the said Guildford Slingsby, Edward Clement, and Robert Clement, be sent for, to attend this House To-morrow Morning, at Eight of the Clock.

And likewise it was Ordered, That the Lord Admiral have present Notice of it; and be desired from this House, forthwith to give Commands, that the Ship of Mr. Slingsbye's, whereof Edward Clem ts is Master, now lying in Tilbury-hope, be brought up, and put in some safe Place; and that the Sails be taken off from the Yards.

Order about Money to be conveyed to Berwick.

It was signified to the House, That the Pay-master of Barwick, who hath received the Money which was provided for the Supply of the Necessities of the Town and Garrison of Barwicke, hath made over, by Exchange, the said Monies to be paid at Newcastle, and so to be conveyed by Land to Barwicke, as being the speediest and safest Way; but, in regard that the Scottish Army is at Newcastle, it was moved, That the Scotts Commissioners here might be moved to have an Order from them, that the said Money might be permitted freely to pass from Newcastle to Barwicke by Land; and the Earl of Warwicke, the Lord Wharton, the Lord Pagett, and the Lord Dunsemorc were appointed by the House to move the Scotts Commissioners therein.
