It was Ordered, upon reading the Petition of James Faucet, that he shall have Copies of Depositions of Witnesses; and, in the mean Time, to stand upon his old Security.

Earl Marshal, Lord Chamberlain, and the Earl of Dorsett, reported to the House, That they have acquainted His Majesty with that which they were appointed by this House Yesterday, concerning the Earl of Strafford's Desire to speak with Sir George Ratcliffe, concerning the Irish Remonstrance: And His Majesty being told how inconvenient it will be for them to speak together, His Majesty was pleased to return this Answer: "He will not by any Means (upon those Reasons) they should speak together."

Order about Wines.

The French and Spanish Merchants attended their Lordships this Day, concerning the Prizing of Wines; and, being called, they told their Lordships, That the Prices of Wines in Foreign Parts are much risen this Year beyond the Prices they bought Wines last Year for; and those French Wines now come are not so good as formerly; and they further informed their Lordships, there hath of late been brought over many sophisticated Wines, by Dutch Merchants and others; and having some Quantity of those Wines landed in a Warehouse to be tried, in the Night-time the Doors were opened, and most of the Wines carried away; for which they have divers in Suspicion; and desired their Lordships Order for to bring them before their Lordships; which was Ordered by this House accordingly.

After this, the Vintners were called, and did aver what the Merchants had declared before.

Their Lordships, taking these Things into Consideration, did think fit there should be a select Standing Committee appointed for Trade in general; which was Ordered, and these Lords following chosen for that Purpose: videlicet,

Survey to be made of Wood and Sea Coal; on Account of their excessive Price.

Upon Signification to the House of the excessive Rates and Prices of Sea Coals and Wood, which was conceived to be a great Grievance; it was Ordered, That the Lord Mayor, Recorder, and Sheriffs, of the City of London, some Justices of the Peace of Midd. Westm. and Surrey, shall presently survey, or cause to be surveyed, all Wharfs, and other Places of Store and Provision of Wood and Sea Coals, within their several Liberties; and to enquire the Reason such extreme and excessive Rates and Prices are imposed upon the said Commodities; and to appear every one of them here To-morrow Morning, and give this House an Account thereof.

O Rourk's Petition.

Upon reading the Petition of Bryan O Rourke, Esquire, a Prisoner in The Tower, desiring that he may have the Liberty of a Subject, to be restored out of Prison, and the Benefit of the Law for the Recovery of his Estate; it was Ordered, That the Consideration of his Petition is referred to the Committee for Imprisonments for that which concerns his Imprisonment, and that which concerns his Estate to the Committee for Petitions; and he to have Liberty to come before their Lordships, at such Times when his Cause is heard.
