The 26th of March yearly to be observed.

Moved again by divers Lords, and Ordered and Agreed, That, in respect of the King's Majesty's Gracious Speech here on the Twenty-sixth of March, the same Day shall be yearly a Sermon-day throughout all England, especially at Westm. and all the Lords then in Town to resort unto it; and it was further Ordered and Decreed, That, at all Parliaments, on the Twenty-sixth of March, the Lords shall sit in their Robes.

Mompesson.

This Day, the Lord Admiral delivered from His Majesty hearty Thanks to the Lords of this House, for their Sentence given Yesterday upon Mompesson, it being so just, and yet moderate in respect of the Heinousness of the Offence. And that His Majesty, out of His Love to His People, and in Detestation of the said Crimes, is pleased (ex abundante) to inflict perpetual Banishment upon the said Mompesson out of all His Majesty's Dominions.

Heads for the Conference reported.

The Commons were ready in the Painted Chamber for the Conference (agreed on Yesterday); and, before the Lords went to the said Conference, the Lord Treasurer first repeated to the Lords what his Lordship was to deliver (by Direction of the House) unto the Commons.

1. To make a short Recital of His Majesty's Gracious Speech here Yesterday.

2. His Majesty's good Allowance and Approbation of the Sentence given Yesterday against Mompesson; and that His Majesty (out of His Grace and Favour to His People) will add to that Punishment perpetual Banishment.

3. That the Lords of this House Yesterday presented (by the Prince) their humble Thanks unto His Majesty, for His Majesty's Gracious Speech unto them, which His Majesty well accepted of.

4. To let them know, that the Lords have considered of the Precedents of Empson and Dudley; and they do not concur with this of Mompesson, for that they were indicted of Treason.

Records of Parliament.

It is Ordered, That the Records of this Parliament be entered and enrolled, videlicet, the Journal Book to be ingrossed in Parchment; and the Acts, Judgments, and Standing Orders of the House, be inrolled and kept in Parchment.

Mompesson.

That the King's Counsel draw up the Proceedings against Mompesson, and shew it to the Lords Sub-Committees, to be considered of, and then inrolled.

Message to the Lower House.

Message to the Lower House, by Mr. Serjeant Crew and Mr. Attorney General,

That, if the Commons will send any Matter of Business unto the Lords of this House, they will be pleased to send it this Forenoon, for that their Lordships will not sit in the Afternoon. If they have no Matter of Business now to send, their Lordships with them all Happiness in their Departure and Return.

Answer.

Answer returned,

That they will return Answer, by Messengers of their own.

Message from the Lower House.

Message from the Lower House by Mr. Secretary Calverte and others:

"The Knights, Citizens, and Burgesses of the House of Commons have received the Noble Message sent to them by the Lords; for which they give their Lordships most humble Thanks. That they do cease from their Businesses also this Morning. They acknowledge the great good Respect between the Two Houses, which hath been more this Parliament than ever, which they for their Parts will endeavour to continue. And so they wish all Honour and Prosperity unto their Lordships."

Lovyes.

The humble Petition of Leonard Lovyes was read, touching Evidences, unduly gotten out of the Chancery, and threatened by his Adversaries to be burnt.

Journal Book.

The Earl of Huntingdon, in the Absence of the Earl of Arundell, as first of the Committees, is to appoint the Time of their Lordships Meeting to view the Journal Book, and for such other Matters as are committed to their Lordships.

Collection of Money for searching Records.

And whereas their Lordships had employed divers Gentlemen to search Records, and to take Notes for their Lordships, who had taken great Pains therein, it was Ordered, Each Earl and Viscount to pay Forty Shillings, and each Bishop and Baron to pay Twenty Shillings; and they which have Proxies to pay for the absent Lords; the Money to be received by the Lords Sub-committees; and, out of the same, to be distributed by their Lordships, first, a Reward to the said Gentlemen, such as their Lordships shall think fit; and, if any Overplus be, to dispose also of the same where their Lordships shall please: And that the said Gentlemen shall transcribe their Notes and Precedents in Parchment, to be kept.
