Sir John Finch, Speaker of H. C. presented.

HIS Majesty having on His Robes and Crown, and sitting on His Royal Throne, and the Lords Spiritual and Temporal being in their Robes; the Commons were sent for, who came, and presented Sir John Finch, Knight, for their Speaker.

Mr. Speaker humbly desired to be excused: But the Lord Keeper answered (on the King's Behalf), "That His Majesty commended and approved the Commons Choice, and therefore would not admit of his Excuse. Whereupon Mr. Speaker proceeded in his Speech; in Conclusion whereof he humbly petitioned, That the House of Commons might enjoy their ancient Privileges: That themselves and their Servants might be free, in their Persons and their Goods, from all Trouble of Arrests: That they may enjoy their Freedom and Liberty of Speech, and Access unto His Majesty's Person, in all Occasions of (fn. 1) And that His Majesty would graciously accept of all their Proceedings, and for a general and free Pardon for himself."

All which His Majesty granted, according to the ancient Usages thereof, as was signified by the Lord Keeper.
