The Lord President reported to the House the Exceptions taken by the Commons, touching the Continuance of the Statute of 7° Edwardi Sexti, for the Sale of Wines by Retail; which the Commons desire to be repealed: videlicet,
1. The Inconveniency of that Statute, being impossible to be observed, and therefore the Dispensation thereof not fit.
2. The King's Answer to their Petition, Anno 7° Jacobi, that saving the present Patent to the Earl of Nott. His Majesty is contented a Law be passed for the restraining any Licence (upon that Statute) to be made in Time to come.
The House taking it into Consideration, Their Lordships did not think it fit to repeal the said Statute at this Time; for that the Earl of Nottingham is yet alive, during whose Life the Commons had agreed to exempt the Patent grounded upon the said Statute, out of the Bill of Monopolies, exhibited this Session, as intending the Continuance thereof during the Life of the said Earl.
