The House called.
THE House was called; the Names of all the Lords being read by the Clerk, each Lord, as his Name was read, standing up, and uncovered.
The Absence of those Lords who are in Town, and yet appeared not through Sickness or otherwise, was excused.
The Absence of the other Lords, whose Names are under written, was excused also, in Manner following: videlicet,
The Lord Archbishop of Yorke hath Leave from the King to be absent, and sent his Proxy to the Lord Archbishop of Cant.
The Lord Marquis of Winchester hath Leave, &c. and sent his Proxy to the Lord St. John of Basing.
The Earl of Nottingham hath Leave, &c. and intends to send his Proxy.
The Earl of Shrewsbury hath Leave, &c. and sent his Proxy to the Earl Marshal.
The Earl of Derby intends to come shortly, or send his Proxy.
The Earl of Cumberland hath Leave, &c. and intends to send his Proxy.
The Earl of Huntingdon hath Leave, &c. hath sent his Proxy to the Earl of South'ton.
The Earl of Bedford hath Leave from the King to be absent, and hath sent his Proxy to the Earl of Pembr.
The Earl of Hertford hath Leave, &c. and sent his Proxy to the Earl of Essex.
The Earl of Leicestre intends to come shortly.
The Lord Viscount Mountague; the Earl Marshal signified, that he had Leave from the King to be absent for a Time.
The Lord Viscount Purbeck hath Leave, &c. and sent his Proxy to the Duke of Buckingham.
The Lord Bishop of Peterborough hath Leave, &c. and
Lord Bishop of Norwich; the Earl Marshal signified his Leave from the King to be absent for a Time, and that he intends to come shortly.
The Bishop of Carlisle; the Lord Keeper signified his Leave, &c. and that he intends to send his Proxy.
The Lord Bishop of St. Asaph had not his Temporalties.
The Lord Audeley hath Leave, &c. and sent his Proxy to the Lord Keeper.
The Lord Zouch hath Leave, &c. and sent his Proxy to the Earl of Pembr.
The Lord Dacres of the South is beyond the Seas.
The Lord Scroope intends to come.
The Lord Wotton; the Earl of Suff. signified his Leave, &c. and that he hath sent his Proxy to his Lordship.
The Lord Danvers hath Leave, &c. and sent his Proxy to the Prince.
The Lord Arundell of Wardor; the Earl Marshal signified his Leave, and that he intends to send his Proxy.
The Lord Stanhope of Shellford hath Leave, &c. and sent his Proxy to the Earl of Oxon.
Lords to take the Oath of Allegiance.
The Lord Keeper signified His Majesty's Pleasure, That such Lords as have not formerly taken the Oath of Allegiance, should now take the same.
Agreed, That the Order is, for such Lords to take the same Oath after the Adjournment of the Court.
The Lords entering into Consideration of the great Business for which His Majesty hath called this Parliament, and which His Majesty imparted unto them in His Speech here in this House, their Lordships agreed to require a Conference with the Commons, for the expediting thereof.
Message to the House of Commons.
Message sent to the Commons, by the Two Lords Chief Justices, Mr. Serjeant Davis, Mr. Serjeant Crewe: videlicet,
Whereas His Majesty, in His Speech (here in this House), designed the Prince and the Duke of Buckingham to signify unto both Houses the Particulars of the great Negotiation, and His Secretaries to shew the Letters and Papers concerning the same; their Lordships, being desirous to expedite this great Business, and to hold fair Correspondency with them, do pray (if their Occasions shall so permit) a Conference, to be had between both Houses, To-morrow, at Two of the Clock in the Afternoon, in the Painted Chamber; that if, upon Doubt of any of the Particulars then related, any of them shall move any Questions, they shall be fully and clearly satisfied therein.
This Message being sent, the House much approved (upon the Prince's own Offer) that his Highness should assist the Duke in this his Relation to both Houses (his Highness having first declared his Willingness herein); and also that the Secretary should attend with their Papers, and produce them, as the Narration should require.
Answer.
Answer returned to the Message:
That the Commons return their Lordships hearty Thanks for the good Correspondency their Lordships desire to hold with them: They do most willingly embrace the Meeting, as is desired, and will attend their Lordships at the Time and Place appointed.
Committee for Customs and Orders of the House.
The Lords Committees to take Consideration of the Customs and Orders of this House, and the Privileges of the Peers of the Kingdom, or Lords of Parliament: videlicet,
And their Lordships may call to attend them, as they shall see Cause,
The Lord Chief Justice, Mr. Justice, Mr. Serjeant Crewe, Mr. Attorney General, |
And such other of His Majesty's Learned Counsel, as their Lordships shall think fit. |
To meet on Thursday next, at Two in the Afternoon, in the Painted Chamber.

The Lords Sub-Committees appointed to take Consideration of the Customs and Orders of the House, and Privileges of the Peers of this Kingdom, or Lords of Parliament: videlicet,

The Lord Keeper remembered the Order made the last Parliament, That the Clerk enter no Order, until the Lord Keeper first demand the Assent of the House.
