Commission for Sir Robert Raymond, C. J. of the King's Bench, to be Speaker.

His Majesty having been pleased to grant a Commission under the Great Seal to Sir Robert Raymond Knight, Chief Justice of the Court of King's Bench, to supply the Room and Place of Lord Chancellor in this House, during the Absence of Peter Lord King, Lord Chancellor of Great Britain:

The said Commission was read, by the Clerk, as follows:

Roxburghe.
Holles Newcastle.
Berkeley.
Godolphin.

"George, by the Grace of God, of Great Britain, France, and Ireland, King, Defender of the Faith, &c. To Our Right Trusty and Well-beloved Counsellor Sir Robert Raymond Knight, Chief Justice of Our Court of King's Bench, Greeting. Know ye, that We, trusting in your approved Fidelity, Wisdom, and Discretion, have constituted, named, and appointed, and by these Presents do constitute, name, and appoint you, from Time to Time, to use and supply the Room and Place of Lord Chancellor of Great Britain, in the Upper House of Parliament, amongst the Lords Spiritual and Temporal there assembled, during the Absence of Our Right Trusty and Well-beloved Counsellor Peter Lord King, Baron of Ockham, Lord Chancellor of Great Britain, from his accustomed Place in Our said Upper House of Parliament; and then and there to do and execute all such Things which Our said Chancellor of Great Britain, using and supplying the said Room and Place, should or might do in that Behalf. Wherefore We will and command you the said Sir Robert Raymond to attend and execute the Premises with Effect. And these Our Letters Patents shall be your sufficient Warrant and Discharge for the same in every Behalf. In Witness whereof, We have caused these Our Letters to be made Patents.

"Witness, William Lord Archbishop of Canterbury, and the rest of the Guardians and Justices of the Kingdom, at Westminster, the Four and Twentieth Day of June, in the Eleventh Year of Our Reign.

"Per ipsos Custodes et Justiciar. Regni propriis Manibus signat.

"Bisse & Bray."

And then the said Lord Chief Justice was called upon by the Lords, to take his Place upon the Woolsack; and their Lordships appointed the Mace to be laid thereupon, and carried before him.

The Speaker acquainted the Lords, "That His Majesty had been pleased to cause a Commission to be issued under the Great Seal, for the further proroguing of the Parliament."

The House was adjourned during Pleasure.

The House was resumed.

Then Three of the Lords Commissioners (in their Robes) being seated on a Form placed between the Throne and the Woolsack (the Speaker being retired to the usual Place by the State, as the Speakers do when His Majesty is present); the Earl of Stair in the Middle; with the Earl of Ilay on his Right Hand; and the Lord Bishop of London on his Left; commanded the Deputy Gentleman Usher of the Black Rod to let the House of Commons know, "That the Lords Commissioners desire their immediate Attendance in this House, to hear His Majesty's Commission read."

Who being come, with their Speaker; the Commission was read, by the Clerk, as follows:

De Fidelitate igitur, Prudentia, et Circumspectionibus vestris plurimum considentes, de Avisamento et Assensu Concilii Nostri, assignavimus vos Commissionarios Nostros; dantes vobis, et aliquibus Tribus vel pluribus vestrum, Tenore Præsentium, plenam Potestatem et Auctoritatem, a dicto Primo Die Julii, ad præsens Parliamentum Nostrum, Nomine Nostro, usque ad et in Diem Jovis, Duodecimum Diem Augusti nunc prox. sequen. apud prædictam Civitatem Nostram Westm. ulterius prorogandum et continuandum, ibidem tunc tenendum et prosequendum; et ideo vobis mandamus, quod circa Præmissa diligenter intendatis, ac ea in Forma prædicta effectualiter expleatis. Damus autem universis et singulis Archiepiscopis, Ducibus, Marchionibus, Comitibus, Vicecomitibus, Episcopis, Baronibus, Militibus, Civibus, Burgensibus, et Commissionariis pro Comitatibus et Burgis, ac omnibus aliis quorum interest ad dictum Parliamentum Nostrum conventuris, Tenore Præsentium, firmiter in Mandatis, quod vobis, in Præmissis faciendis, agendis, et exequendis, pareant, obediant et intendant, prout decer. In cujus Rei Testimonium, has Literas Nostras fieri fecimus Patentes.

Which done; the Earl of Stair said,

Parliament prorogued.

"My Lords, and Gentlemen,

"By virtue of His Majesty's Commission now read, to us and others directed, we do, in His Majesty's Name, and by His Royal Authority, prorogue this present Parliament to Thursday the Twelfth Day of August next, to be then here held: And this Parliament is accordingly prorogued to Thursday the Twelfth Day of August next."
