Bradshaw & al. Petition to put off their Cause, rejected.

A Petition of John Bradshaw and others, was presented to the House, and read; praying, "That the Hearing of their Appeal, which is appointed on Tuesday next, may be put off, till such Time as their Counsel, who are now on the Oxford Circuit, can be in Town."

Ordered, That the said Petition be rejected.

Moor & al. versus Mattocks, Respondents further Time to answer.

Upon reading the Petition of Thomas Mattocks, Henry Bridges, and others, Respondents to the Appeal of Boyl Moor, Henry Edgworth, and others; praying, "That the Petitioners may be allowed a further Time for putting in their Answers to the said Appeal; they living One Hundred and Fifty Miles from the City of Dublin, and were but lately served with the Order of this House for answering:"

It is Ordered, That the Petitioners have further Time allowed, for answering the said Appeal, till Friday the Nineteenth Day of April next.

King's Answer to Address for Papers concerning the Riot at Oxford.

The Lord Chamberlain acquainted the House, "That the Lords with White Staves (according to Order) had presented to His Majesty the Address of this House of Monday last, "That His Majesty would be pleased to cause the Complaints, Informations, and Depositions, relating to the Riots and Disorders complained of as lately committed in the City of Oxford, together with an Account of what Proceedings have been had thereupon, to be laid before this House;" and that His Majesty had been pleased to give Directions accordingly."

Then the Duke of Roxburgh presented to the House several Papers, pursuant to the said Address; the Titles whereof were read, as follows:

"Account of the Proceedings relating to the Riot at Oxford, on the Prince's Birth-day, 1716."

"Major D'Offranville's Letter to my Lord Townsbend, dated at Oxford, 2d November, 1716."

"Vice Chancellor and Mayor of Oxford's Letter to my Lord Townshend, dated at Oxford, 4th Nov'r, 1716."

"Mr. Rowney's Letter to Mr. Secretary Methuen, dated at Oxford, 3d November, 1716."

"56 Affidavits from Oxford, on the Part of the Officers and Soldiers."

Ordered, That the said Papers be referred to a Committee of the whole House; to consider and report their Opinion thereof to the House; and that the House be put into a Committee of the whole House, for that Purpose, on Wednesday next.

The Report of the Judges, to whom the Petition of Charles Eversfield Esquire was referred, praying Leave to bring in a Bill, for vesting Part of his Estate in Trustees, to be sold, for Payment of his Debts, and other Purposes therein mentioned, was this Day delivered.

Schaw versus Houstoun.

Upon reading the Petition and Appeal of Sir John Schaw of Greinock Baronet; complaining of Two Interlocutors of the Lords of Session in Scotland, on the Fifteenth and Thirtieth Days of July 1715, made on the Behalf of Margaret the Wife of John Houstoun Esquire, and the said John Houstoun her Husband; and praying, "That the same may be reversed:"

It is Ordered, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the said John Houstoun and his said Wise may have a Copy of the said Appeal; and shall and are hereby required to put in their Answer thereunto, in Writing, on or before Friday the Twentysixth Day of April next.

Upon reading the Petition of John Cary Esquire; setting forth, "That, understanding his Petition, presented to this House on the Nineteenth Instant, for Re-summons, on his Appeal lodged in this House the Twentieth of May 1713, was ordered to lie on the Table, it not appearing that the Respondent John White was served with the Order made on receiving the said Appeal;" and expressing some Reasons which prevented the Service of the said Order, and the sooner Prosecution of the said Appeal; and praying, "That the said John White may be ordered to put in his Answer to the said Appeal by a Time to be appointed; and that the Service of the Order of this House on his Clerk in Court, or at his Dwelling-house, be deemed good Service:" As also on reading an Affidavit of the Petitioner, "That the Allegations of the said Petition are true, to the best of his Knowledge and Belief:"

It is Ordered, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled; That the said John White do put in his Answer to the said Appeal, in Writing, on or before Friday the Third Day of May next.

Carre versus Haldane.

Upon reading the Petition and Appeal of John Carre, of Cavers, Esquire; complaining of an Interlocutor of the Lord Ordinary, on the Ninth of November One Thousand Seven Hundred and Fourteen; and of several Interlocutors of the Lords of Session in Scotland, the Twenty-third of November, and Seventh and Sixteenth Days of December following, made on the Behalf of John Haldane of Lanerk; and praying, "That the same may be reversed:"

It is Ordered, by the Lords-Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the said John Haldane may have a Copy of the said Appeal; and shall and is hereby required to put in his Answer thereunto, in Writing, on or before Friday the Twenty-sixth Day of April next.
