Message from H. C. with a Bill.

A Message from the House of Commons, by Mr. Freman and others:

With a Bill, intituled, "An Act to discharge Sir Alexander Rigby Knight from his Imprisonment; and vest his Estate and Effects in Trustees, for the Benefit of his Creditors;" to which they desire the Concurrence of this House.

Timber Bill.

Hodie 1a vice lecta est Billa, intituled, "An Act to encourage the planting of Timber Trees, Fruit Trees, and other Trees, for Ornament, Shelter, or Profit; and for the better Preservation of the same; and for the preventing the burning of Woods."

L. V. Mountague versus Maxwell et Ux.:

After hearing Counsel, Yesterday and this Day, upon the Petition and Appeal of Henry Lord Viscount Mountague; complaining of a Decree of the Court of Chancery, made the Twenty-fifth Day of January last, in certain Causes, wherein Sir George Maxwell Baronet and Mary Viscountess Dowager Mountague his Wife were Plaintiffs, and the Appellant and others Defendants; and the Appellant Plaintiff, and the said Sir George Maxwell and his said Wife and others Defendants; and praying, "That the said Decree may be reversed or rectified in several Particulars; and that the Petitioners may have such other Relief as to this House shall seem meet:" As also upon the Answer of the said Sir George Maxwell and the said Mary Viscountess Dowager Mountague his Wife put in to the said Appeal; and due Consideration had of what was offered thereupon:

Decree varied.

It is Ordered and Adjudged, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the said Decree of the Court of Chancery, in such Part thereof as directs the said Viscountess to accompt for the Personal Estate of her late Husband, be, and is hereby, so far varied, as that the Respondent the said Viscountess Dowager shall be decreed to accompt for the Personal Estate of Francis Lord Viscount Mountague, her late Husband, deceased, which was resting in her Hands, or in the Hands of any Person or Persons for her Use, or in Trust for her at the Time of her said late Husband's Decease: And as to such Part of the said Decree complained of in the said Appeal, as directs the Inquiry by the Master, in order to determine whether the Viscountess shall accompt for the Receipts of the Rents of her late Husband the Viscount's Estate in his Life-time, the same is hereby affirmed: And as to the Five Hundred Pounds Annuity, or Rent-charge, in Question, mentioned to be devised by the Codicil in the Pleadings mentioned, it is hereby further Ordered, That the Court of Chancery do direct an Issue at Law to be tried at Bar, by a Jury of the Country of Sussex, the First convenient Opportunity to try whether the said Francis late Lord Viscount Mountague was of sane Memory at the Time of the Execution of the Codicil in Question: And as to the other Points in Question upon this Appeal, it is hereby Ordered, That the Consideration thereof be reserved till after the Issue above directed is tried: But as to all other Matters in the said Decree, not complained of in the said Appeal, or hereby affirmed, the said Court of Chancery is ordered to proceed thereon as shall be just, notwithstanding the Direction of the said Trial and Reservation abovementioned.

Traders in Snuff, against a Clause in the Bill to prevent Abuses in Tobacco, &c.

Upon reading the Petition of Alexander Holden, Will. Plaisted, George Dottin, Humphrey Thayer, Francis Drake, and Henry Dighton, in Behalf of themselves and several other Wholesale and Retail Traders and Dealers in Snuff; praying to be heard, by their Counsel, what they have to offer, in relation to a Clause in the Bill depending in this House, intituled, "An Act to prevent the Mischiefs by manufacturing Leaves, or other Things, to resemble Tobacco, and the Abuses in making and mixing of Snuff, as to the general prohibiting of the Use of any Sort of Colouring for Snuff," before the said Bill do pass:

It is Ordered, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That this House shall be put into a Committee of the whole House, to consider of the said Bill, To-morrow; and that the Petitioners may be heard, by their Counsel, according to the Prayer of their Petition, before the said Committee, if they think fit.
