PRAYERS.

Bridge attached, for printing the E. of Winton's Trial.

Daniel Bridge, a Printer, in Pater-noster Row, attending (according to Order), was called in, and examined, touching the printing of a Paper, intituled, "An Account of the Trial of the Earl of Winton."

And acquainted the House, "He received the Copy thereof from Edmund Curll, a Bookseller, in FleetStreet;" and owned he printed the same.

And withdrew.

Ordered, That the Gentleman Usher of the Black Rod, his Deputy or Deputies, do forthwith attach the Body of the said Daniel Bridge, for his Contempt and Breach of the Orders and Privileges of this House, in printing the said Paper, and keep him in safe Custody until further Order; and this shall be a sufficient Warrant in that Behalf.

To Sir William Oldes, Gentleman Usher of the Black Rod, his Deputy or Deputies, and every of them.

Wilkins, Anderson, & al. for printing a Protest, reprimanded, and discharged.

Then W. Wilkins was called in, and examined, at the Bar, touching a Paragraph in a Paper, intituled, "The Evening General Post," to the Effect following; videlicet, "An Abstract of the Protest against the Bill for repealing the Triennial Act;" wherein is inserted the Names of several Lords of this House.

And he owned, "He printed the said Paper; but was entirely ignorant of the Orders of this House; and begged Forgiveness; and promised never to offend again."

And withdrew.

Then A. Dodd was called in, and examined touching the said Paper; and acquainted the House, "That though his Name was put to the said Paper, yet he was out of Town, and never saw the same till it was printed."

And withdrew.

Then the said Wilkins was again called in, and asked, "Where he had the Copy of the said Paper?" And he acquainted the House, "He received the Copy of it from Adam Anderson, who was now attending at the Door."

And withdrew.

Then the said Adam Anderson was called in, and also examined touching the said Paper. Who owned, "He sent the Copy thereof to the said Wilkin to be printed; but was entirely ignorant of the Orders of this House, and begged Forgiveness; and assured their Lordships, he would never offend again in the like Kind."

And withdrew.

Ordered, That A. Dodd, before mentioned, be discharged from any further Attendance.

And then it was agreed by the House, that the said Wilkins and Anderson should be again called in, and reprimanded by the Lord Chancellor for their said Offences, and likewise discharged.

And they, being called in, and reprimanded by his Lordship, on their Knees, at the Bar, were discharged accordingly.

Glasgow, Duty on Ale, &c. Bill.

Hodie 2^a vice lecta est Billa, intituled, "An Act for the continuing the Duty of Two Pennies Scots, or One Sixth of a Penny Sterling, on every Pint of Ale and Beer that shall be vended or sold within the City of Glasgow and Privileges thereof, for the Benefit of the said City."

Ordered, That the said Bill be committed to a Committee of the whole House, on Monday next.

Trials for Treason, &c. Bill:

Hodie 3^a vice lecta est Billa, intituled, "An Act for allowing of Counsel to all Persons who shall be proceeded against in Parliament for any Crimes of Treason or Misprision of Treason."

The Question was put, "Whether this Bill shall pass?"

It was Resolved in the Affirmative.

Message to H. C. with it.

A Message was sent to the House of Commons, by Mr. Hiccocks and Mr. Orlebar:

To carry down the said Bill, and desire their Concurrence thereunto.

E. Dorset's Bill.

Hodie 2^a vice lecta est Billa, intituled, "An Act for vesting several Manors, Messuages, Lands, and Hereditaments, late of Charles Earl of Dorset and Middlesex, whereof James late Duke of Ormond, at the Time of his Attainder, was seised, as surviving Trustee named in the Will of the said Earl, in new Trustees and their Heirs, upon the same Trusts."

Ordered, That the said Bill be committed to the Consideration of the Lords following; (videlicet,)

Their Lordships, or any Five of them; to meet To-morrow, at Ten a Clock in the Forenoon, in the Prince's Lodgings near the House of Peers; and to adjourn as they please.

Hackney Coaches, Bill.

Hodie 2^a vice lecta est Billa, intituled, "An Act for the better regulating Hackney Coaches, Carts, Drays, Cars, and Waggons, within the Cities of London and Westminster, and the Weekly Bills of Mortality; and for preventing Mischiefs occasioned by the Drivers riding upon such Carts, Drays, Cars, and Waggons."

Ordered, That the said Bill be committed to a Committee of the whole House, on Friday next.

Malt, &c. Bill.

Hodie 2^a vice lecta est Billa, intituled, "An Act for charging and continuing the Duties on Malt, Mum, Cyder, and Perry, for the Service of the Year One Thousand Seven Hundred and Sixteen; and for compelling several Receivers to finish and clear their Accompts; and for making Duplicates of Exchequer Bills, Lottery Tickets, and Orders, lost, burnt, or destroyed; and for enlarging the Time for adjusting Claims to certain Benefit Tickets; and for allowing the Charge of executing the Lottery Act for the Service of the Year One Thousand Seven Hundred and Ten; and for recovering Monies of several Land Taxes, resting in the Hands of Collectors or Constables at St. Albans; and for preventing Frauds in the Duties upon Soap; and for limiting a Time for Persons who have certain Annuities for Life or Lives to demand the Payments thereupon at the Exchequer; and for preventing Frauds in the Duties relating to printed and painted Paper, Callicoes, and other Things therein mentioned."

Ordered, That the said Bill be committed to a Committee of the whole House, To-morrow.

Burlington Piers, Bill.

The House (according to Order) was adjourned during Pleasure, and put into a Committee upon the Bill, intituled, "An Act to revive and continue an Act of the Eighth and Ninth Year of the Reign of His late Majesty King William, for Repair of the Piers of Bridlington, alias Burlington, in the East Riding of the County of York."

And, after some Time spent therein, the House was resumed.

And the Earl of Clarendon reported from the said Committee, "That they had made some Progress in the Bill; and directed him to move, That they may have Leave to sit again." And his Lordship acquainted the House, "That he was also directed by the said Committee, to move, That certain Letters Patents, mentioned in the above-recited Act of the Eighth and Ninth Year of His late Majesty, granted by King James the First, bearing Date the Twentieth Day of September in the Twenty-first Year of His Reign, whereby the Manor of Bridlington, alias Burlington, aforesaid, was given to John then Earl of Holderness, and his Heirs and Assigns for ever, upon the Conditions therein expressed, may be laid before this House."

Ordered, That To-morrow this House shall be put into a Committee of the whole House, to consider further of the said Bill; and that the Keeper of the Rolls do then attend this House, with the Roll wherein the said Letters Patents are contained, in order that the same may be referred to the said Committee.

Tyson's Petition, complaining of Rutter's Appeal being brought for Delay, and of the Counsel's Names to it being forged.

Upon reading the Petition of William Tyson Gentleman; setting forth, "That, on or about the Twentieth of January last, William Rutter Senior and others, for Vexation and Delay, lodged a very long Appeal in this House, against a Decree of the Court of Exchequer, made on the Petitioner's Behalf; and the Counsel, who, 'tis pretended, signed the said Appeal, are John Niccols and E. Copley, neither of which were Counsel for the Appellants in the said Court; and the Petitioner, suspecting some ill Practice, was at great Charges in finding out the said Counsel; and has obtained of them Certificates, that they nor either of them signed the said Appeal;" and praying, That Mr. James Mynde, the Appellant's Solicitor, may personally attend this House, by a short Day, to answer the Premises, and shew Cause wherefore the said Appeal should not stand dismissed, with Costs:"

It is Ordered, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the Consideration of the said Petition be, and is hereby, referred to the Lords Committees for Privileges (whose Lordships are to meet on Monday next); to examine the Subject-matter of the said Petition, and report to the House; and that the said James Mynde do then attend the said Committee.

Stockton Parish, Bill.

Hodie 2^a vice lecta est Billa, intituled, "An Act for explaining and making more effectual an Act, passed in the Twelfth Year of the Reign of Her late Majesty Queen Anne, intituled, An Act for making the Chapelry of Stockton, in the County of Durham, a distinct Parish."

Ordered, That the Consideration of the said Bill be committed to the same Committee to whom the Bill relating to the Earl of Dorset stands committed.
