The Lord Chancellor reported, "That the House did Yesterday present to His Majesty their humble Address; to which His Majesty was pleased to return this gracious Answer; (videlicet,)
King's Answer to Address.
"My Lords,
"This Address is a fresh Instance of your Duty and Affection to My Person and Government, and of your just and tender Concern for the Safety of My People.
"The Vigour and Resolution you express on this Occasion will, I hope, contribute very much to the putting a speedy and effectual End to this Rebellion."
Ordered, That the Address of this House to His Majesty, and His Majesty's most Gracious Answer thereunto, be forthwith printed and published.
Turner versus Smith &c al.
Upon reading the Petition and Appeal of John Turner, Rector and Vicar of the Parish Church of Coverham, in the County of York, and Diocese of Chester; complaining of a Dismission of the Petitioner's Bill, by the Court of Exchequer, in Trinity Term last, in a Cause wherein the Petitioner was Plaintiff, and William Smith, George Wray, Francis Watson, and others, were Defendants; and praying Relief and Redress therein:
It is Ordered, That the said William Smith, George Wray, and Francis Watson, may have a Copy of the said Appeal; and shall and are hereby required to put in their Answer thereunto, in Writing, on or before Tuesday the Fourteenth Day of February next.
Appellant's Petition, to be admitted in Forma Pauperis.
As also upon reading another Petition of the said John Turner; praying, "In regard he was admitted in Forma Pauperis in the Court of Exchequer, and being not able to prosecute his Appeal for Want of Counsel, that such Counsel may be assigned him as to this House shall seem meet:"
It is Ordered, That the said Petition do lie on the Table, till the Petitioner verifies to this House his Poverty, by Affidavit or otherwise.
L. Nairn, Leave for Persons to visit him.
Upon reading the Petition of William Lord Nairne; praying, "That the Right Honourable the Earl of Orford, the Honourable Mr. William Murray Son to the late Earl of Dunmore, Mr. Haddon of Glenglis, Sir David Nairne, and Mr. David Fotheringham Banker, may have Access to the Petitioner, at such Times, and in such Manner, as to this House shall seem meet:"
It is Ordered, That the Persons abovementioned have hereby Liberty to have Access to the Petitioner once, severally, at any seasonable Time.
Method of giving Judgement on the Lords who have pleaded guilty.
The House (according to Order) was adjourned during Pleasure, and put into a Committee of the whole House, to consider of the Forms and Method of proceeding to Judgement, in the Case of the Six Lords who have pleaded guilty to the Impeachment of the House of Commons.
And, after some Time spent therein, the House was resumed.
And the Earl of Clarendon reported from the said Committee, "That they had made some Progress in the Matter to them referred; and directed him to move, That they may have Leave to sit again."
Ordered, That on Friday next this House shall be put into a Committee of the whole House, to consider further of the Forms and Method of proceeding to Judgement in the Case abovementioned.
Adjourn.
