E. of Scarsdale, to be committed.

The Lord Viscount Townshend acquainted the House, by His Majesty's Command, "That His Majesty has just Cause to suspect that the Earl of Scarsdale is engaged in Measures to assist the intended Invasion, and likewise to support the Rebellion now on Foot in this Kingdom; and that His Majesty desires the Consent of this House, that the said Earl may be committed and detained, according to the late Act, intituled, An Act to empower His Majesty to secure and detain such Persons as His Majesty shall suspect are conspiring against His Person and Government."

Resolved, That this House doth consent to the committing and detaining the said Earl of Scarsdale accordingly.

Bp. of London takes the Oaths.

This Day John Lord Bishop of London took the Oaths, and made and subscribed the Declaration, and also took and subscribed the Oath of Abjuration, pursuant to the Statutes; his Lordship having first delivered a Certificate of his receiving the Sacrament; and Witnesses were sworn, and examined to the Truth thereof.

Blake discharged.

A Petition of Richard Blake, of St. Mildred's Poultry, London, Victualler, was presented to the House, and read; acknowledging "his Offence, in being concerned in detaing Peter Sonmans, a menial Servant of the Earl of Clarendon, and speaking disrespectful Words of his Lordship; and begging Pardon of the said Earl and of this House for the said Offence; and praying, "That their Lordships will have Compassion on him, and grant him his Discharge; having a Wife and several Children, and nothing to support himself and Family but his daily Labour."

And thereupon the said Richard Blake being called in; and, on his Knees, at the Bar, reprimanded by the Lord Chancellor for his said Offence, was discharged out of Custody (paying his Fees).

Message from the King, for both Houses to adjourn.

The Lord Chancellor acquainted the House, "That he was commanded by His Majesty to signify to their Lordships, That His Majesty is pleased that both Houses do adjourn to Thursday the Twentieth Day of this Instant October."

Accordingly,

Adjourn.
