Confirmation of a Decree for the Copyholders of Edmonton.

HODIE 2a vice lecta est Billa, An Act for Confirmation of a Decree, made in the Court of Exchequer Chamber, between the King's Majesty and the Copyholders of His Majesty's Manor of Edlemoton, alias Edmonton, in the County of Midd.; appointed to be ingrossed.

His Majesty's Answer to the Committees concerning Tenures and Wardships.

This Day the Lord Privy Seal did, in very ample and apt Manner, report to the House, the Answer given Yesterday by His Majesty unto the Lords Committees that were sent to His Highness, to make known the humble Motion and Desire of the House of the Commons, touching the Matter of Tenures, etc. which Motion the said Lord Privy Seal had in particular delivered and opened to His Majesty, as was given him in Charge, by Order of the Court, upon Saturday last. And thereupon His Majesty (strictly observing every material Point thereof) was pleased to give His Answer, to this Effect following: "That, although he took good Notice of the Distinction of Time, when the Matter was first moved, and this present; and that there are infinite Matters as well of State, as others of Parliament, that keep him still in Exercise; yet, in respect of the Humility, dutiful Carriage, Discretion and Judgement of the Lower House, shewed in this Matter, and of the Wisdom of the Lords in moving it, and lastly, the Season of the Year; His Majesty both had thought on this Matter, and was pleased they should treat thereof; and that the Lower House should have speedy Notice of His Pleasure therein. Furthermore, His Majesty made Mention of other Businesses in Hand this Parliament. First, of Grievances, which He declared Himself to be so willing effectually to ease, as that, although He doubteth not of the good Disposition of His Posterity, yet He is desirous to provide that, if they should have Will, they may not have Power again to grieve the People."

After this Report made by the Lord Privy Seal, the Lord Chancellor put their Lordships in Mind of the Motion of the Lower House, at the last Meeting in Conference, touching the Matter of Supply, and of their Desire to treat of this great Matter of Tenures; and thereupon his Lordship moved, That some Course might be thought on to let the Lower House know His Majesty's Answer concerning Tenures as abovesaid.

Agreed thereunto by the Lords, and a Message sent to the said House of Commons, by Mr. Baron Bromley, Sir Jo. Tindale, and Dr. Amye:

Message to the Commons. Tenures and Wardships.

Message:

That the Lords have acquainted His Majesty with their Motion and Desire to treat of the Matter of Tenures, &c. That they have received His Majesty's Gracious Answer thereunto, which hath been this Day related to this House: And that their Lordships are willing, by Committees of this House, to deliver the same unto Committees of the Lower House, this Afternoon, at Two of the Clock, in the Painted Chamber, if they may conveniently attend it.

Answer:

That they are willing to give their Lordships Meeting, at the Time and Place appointed.

Adjourn.
