Tenures and Wardships.

THIS Day the Lord Treasurer made Report to the House, That the Committees, who were appointed to acquaint His Majesty with the Desire of the House of the Commons, touching the Matter of Tenures and Wardships, had accordingly performed the Direction given them in that Behalf; and withall signified the Answer delivered by His Majesty thereunto, which in Effect was this: "That His Highness reserveth to Himself (tanquam re integra) the Power Affirmative or Negative, to grant the Petition made by the Lower House or not to grant it, as upon further Deliberation He shall see Cause." Hereupon it was moved by some of the Lords (and particularly by the Lord Privy Seal), That, in regard the Matter was of great Importance, Respite might be taken till To-morrow, at their next Meeting, to consider of the Course fit to be holden for imparting His Majesty's said Answer to the Lower House. Which being seconded by the Lord Chancellor (who gravely delivered his Judgement, That, in great Councils, Deliberation always bringeth Advantage to them that use it), and propounded by his Lordship, Whether the House did approve the same, or no; it was generally Agreed, That such Respite should be taken concerning this Matter as aforesaid.
