A Petition of Richard Peckham, of Lordington, in the County of Sussex, Esquire, was presented to the House, and read; setting forth, "That, on the 29th of May last, he was taken into Custody, by the Serjeant at Arms, for issuing a Warrant, on the 5th of August 1713, against Joseph Reed, then a menial Servant to the Earl of Scarbrough; that the Petitioner is ancient, and very infirm, and his Journey to London hath endangered his Life; and is very sensible of his Offence, and sorry for the same; and praying to be discharged."

And it being moved, "That he be accordingly discharged (paying his Fees):"

After Debate;

The Question was put, "That the said Richard Peckham be discharged out of Custody of the Serjeant at Arms attending this House (paying his Fees)?"

It was Resolved in the Affirmative.

Ordered, That the said Richard Peckham be, and he is hereby, discharged from the Restraint he now lies under (paying his Fees); and this shall be a sufficient Warrant on that Behalf.

Dutchess Hamilton et al. versus Brown; in Error:

Whereas this Day was appointed, for hearing Counsel, to argue the Errors assigned upon Two Writs of Error, brought into this House the Twenty-eighth Day of April last; in both which Writs Elizabeth Dutchess Dowager of Hamilton and Brandon and others are Plaintiffs, and George Browne Gentleman is Defendant, in order to reverse Judgements given in the Court of Exchequer, on Verdicts in Ejectment for Lands in the Counties Palatine of Lancaster and Chester; which Judgements were affirmed in the Exchequer Chamber; Counsel appearing for the Defendant in Error, but no Counsel for the Plaintiffs:

Judgements affirmed.

It is Ordered and Adjudged, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the said Judgements given in the Court of Exchequer, and the Affirmance thereof in the Exchequer Chamber, be, and are hereby, affirmed; and that the Records be remitted to the said Court of Exchequer, to the End Execution may be had thereupon, as if no such Writs of Error had been brought into this House.

Schism to prevent the Growth of Bill:

Hodie 2^a vice lecta est Billa, intituled, "An Act to prevent the Growth of Schism, and for the further Security of the Church of England as by Law established."

Ordered, That the said Bill be committed to a Committee of the whole House.

Foreign Reformed Churches in England, Petition for a Clause in it.

Then a Petition of the Foreign Reformed Churches in England, first allowed and established in the Reign of King Edward the VIth, and confirmed in the succeeding Reigns for above 160 Years past, was presented to the House, and read; praying, "That, they having a Clause in their Favour in the Act of Uniformity, there may likewise be a Proviso in the Bill abovementioned, that the Penalties therein shall not extend to them."

Ordered, That the said Petition be referred to the Consideration of the Committee of the whole House to whom the said Bill is committed; and that they receive a Clause in Favour of the Petitioners, and other Foreigners of the Reformed Churches.

Ordered, That this House shall be put into a Committee upon the said Bill, on Wednesday next, at One a Clock.

Tobacco Trade, Bill.

Ordered, That the Bill, intituled, "An Act for encouraging the Tobacco Trade," be read a Second Time on Thursday next; and that some of the Commissioners of the Customs do then attend this House.

Causes put off.

Ordered, That the Hearing of the Cause wherein Grace and Rachel Douglas are Appellants, and James More is Respondent, be put off to Thursday next.
