Roper versus Hewet et al.

Upon reading the Petition and Appeal of Edward Roper Esquire, Cousin and Heir of John Roper Esquire, deceased, from a Decree made in the Court of Chancery, the 25th Day of February last; praying "the Reversal of the said Decree; and that Robert Hewet, Daniel Hickman, William Constable, Thomas Radcliffe, Richard Snow, William Plowden, Robert Cotton, John Proby, Elizabeth Walden, Hester Walden, Mary Fletcher, and Charles Mannors, may answer the said Appeal:"

It is Ordered, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the said Robert Hewet, Daniel Hickman, and the other Parties abovementioned, may have a Copy of the said Appeal; and shall and are hereby required to put in their Answer or respective Answers thereunto, in Writing, on or before Tuesday the 23d Day of this Instant June, at Eleven a Clock.

Election in Scotland, Bill.

Hodie 1^a vice lecta est Billa, intituled, "An Act for the better regulating the Elections of Members to serve in Parliament for that Part of Great Britain called Scotland."

Stewart et al. versus Harkness.

The House being moved, "That a Day may be appointed, for hearing the Causes depending in this House, wherein Walter Stewart is Appellant, and John Harkness Respondent; and Thomas Pillans is Appellant, and the said John Harkness Respondent:"

It is Ordered, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That this House will hear the said Causes, by Counsel, at the Bar, on Saturday the 20th Day of this Instant June, at Eleven a Clock.

Shoreditch to Enfield, Highways, Bill:

Hodie 3^a vice lecta est Billa, intituled, "An Act for repairing the Highway, or Road, from the Stones-end, in the Parish of St. Leonard Shoreditch, in the County of Midd'x, to the furthermost Part of the Northern Road, in the Parish of Endfield, in the same County, next to the Parish of Cheshunt, in the County of Hertford."

The Question was put, "Whether this Bill shall pass?"

It was Resolved in the Affirmative.

Message to H. C. that the Lords have agreed to it.

A Message was sent to the House of Commons, by Mr. Holford and Mr. Lovibond:

To acquaint them, that the Lords have agreed to the said Bill, without any Amendment.

Ellins' Bill rejected.

The Lord Delawar reported from the Lords Committees, to whom the Bill, intituled, "An Act to give Leave to William Ellins to surrender himself to Commissioners of Bankrupts, for the Benefit of his Creditors," was committed: "That they had considered the said Bill; and do conceive that it is of a very extraordinary Nature, being an Indemnity to a Person who admits himself to be guilty of Felony, as a fraudulent Bankrupt; and therefore did not think fit to proceed in the Bill, without the Directions of the House."

Ordered, That the said Bill be rejected.

Trade between England and France to be considered.

The Order being read, for taking into Consideration how the Trade between England and France stood at the Time of the Revolution, in the Year 1688; how it stood at the making of the Peace at Ryswick, and from thence to the Declaration of the late War; and how it will stand by the Treaty now made, if the same should take Place.

And, after Debate in relation to the Method of proceeding in this Matter:

Ordered, That on Monday next, at Twelve a Clock, this House will take into Consideration the State of the Trade between England and France, from the Year 1660 to the Year 1678.

A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Mr. Ferrier and others:

With a Bill, intituled, "An Act for establishing the Trade to Africa free and open to all Her Majesty's Subjects of Great Britain and the Plantations;" to which they desire the Concurrence of this House.
