Ld. Treror appointed Speaker:

The Lord Treasurer signified to the House, from Her Majesty, "That Her Majesty hath granted a Commission, under the Great Seal of Great Britain, to Thomas Lord Trevor, Chief Justice of the Court of Common Pleas, to supply the Place of Lord Keeper, as Speaker of this House, during the Sickness and Absence of Simon Lord Harcourt Lord Keeper."

Hereupon the said Commission was read, as follows:

"Anne, by the Grace of God, of Great Britain, France, and Ireland, Queen, Defender of the Faith, &c. To Our Right Trusty and Well-beloved Counsellor Thomas Lord Trevor, Baron of Bromham, Chief Justice of Our Court of Common Pleas, Greeting. Know ye, that We, trusting in your approved Fidelity, Wisdom, and Discretion, have constituted, named, and appointed, and, by these Presents, do constitute, name, and authorize you, from Time to Time, to use and supply the Room and Place of Lord Keeper of Our Great Seal of Great Britain, in the Upper House of Parliament, amongst the Lords Spiritual and Temporal there assembled, during the Absence of Our Right Trusty and Well-beloved Counsellor Simon Lord Harcourt, Baron of Stanton Harcourt, Lord Keeper of Our Great Seal of Great Britain, from his accustomed Place in Our said Upper House of Parliament; and then and there to do and execute all such Things, which Our Lord Keeper of Our Great Seal of Great Britain, using and supplying the said Room and Place, should or might do in that Behalf: Wherefore We will and command you, the said Thomas Lord Trevor, to attend and execute the Premises with Effect; and these Our Letters Patents shall be your sufficient Warrant and Discharge for the same in every Behalf. In Witness whereof, We have caused these Our Letters to be made Patents.

"Witness Ourself, at Westminster, the Ninth Day of March, in the Twelfth Year of Our Reign.

Then the Lord Trevor was called upon by the House to take his Place upon the Woolfack; and their Lordships appointed the Mace to be laid thereupon, and carried before him.

Ld. Paget takes his Seat.

This Day Henry Lord Paget and Burton sat first in Parliament, after the Death of his Father William Lord Paget; and took the Oaths, and made and subscribed the Declaration, and also took and subscribed the Oath of Abjuration, pursuant to the Statutes.

The Speaker acquainted the House, "That Her Majesty had sent a Commission for the further proroguing of the Parliament."

Then the House was adjourned during Pleasure.

The House was resumed.

Then the Lords Commissioners (in their Robes) being seated on a Form placed between the Throne and the Woolsack; the Lord Treasurer in the Middle; with the Lord Steward on his Right Hand; and the Lord Trevor on his Left; commanded the Gentleman Usher of the Black Rod to go to the House of Commons, and let them know, "That the Commissioners desire their immediate Attendance in the House of Peers, to hear the Commission read."

Who being come, with their Speaker; the Commission was read, by the Clerk, as follows;

Then the Lord Treasurer said,

Parliament prorogued.

"My Lords, and Gentlemen of the House of Commons,

"By Virtue of Her Majesty's Commission now read, and to us and other Lords directed, we do, in Her Majesty's Name, further prorogue this present Parliament to Tuesday the Seventeenth Day of this Instant March: And this Parliament is accordingly prorogued to Tuesday the Seventeenth Day of this Instant March."
