Message from H. C. with a Bill.

A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Mr. Serjeant Webb and others:

With a Bill, intituled, "An Act for rendering the Proceedings upon Writs of Mandamus and Informations in the Nature of a Quo Warranto more speedy and effectual; and for the more easy trying and determining the Rights of Offices and Franchises, in Corporations and Boroughs;" to which they desire the Concurrence of this House.

Message from thence, for a Conference on the Bill for Preservation of Game.

A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Mr. Hervey and others:

To desire a Conference with this House, on the Subject-matter of the Amendment made by this House to the Bill, intituled, "An Act for making the Act of the Fifth Year of Her Majesty's Reign, for the better Preservation of the Game, perpetual; and for making the same more effectual."

To which the House agreed.

Then the Commons were called in; and told, "That the Lords do agree to a Conference, as is desired; and appoint it To-morrow, at One a Clock, in the Painted Chamber."

Sir Lyon Pilkington versus Cuthbertson:

After hearing Counsel, upon the Petition and Appeal of Sir Lyon Pilkington Baronet, from a Decree made in the Court of Chancery, the Ninth Day of February One Thousand Seven Hundred and Seven, and a subsequent Order of the Nineteenth of January One Thousand Seven Hundred and Ten, in a Cause wherein the Petitioner was Complainant, against Mary Cuthbertson Widow, Defendant; and in a Cross Cause, wherein the said Mary Cuthbertson was Complainant, against the Petitioner Defendant: As also upon the Answer of the said Mary Cuthbertson put in to the said Appeal; and due Consideration of what was offered thereupon:

Judgement affirmed, with Costs.

It is Ordered and Adjudged, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the said Petition and Appeal of the said Sir Lyon Pilkington shall be, and is hereby, dismissed this House; and that the Decree and Order therein complained of shall be, and are hereby, affirmed: And it is further Ordered, That the said Sir Lyon Pilkington shall pay, or cause to be paid, unto the said Mary Cuthbertson, the Sum of Twenty Pounds, for her Costs.

Williams, a Negroe, Bill.

Whereas this Day was appointed, for the House to be in a Committee on the Bill, intituled, "An Act for enabling John Williams (a Free Negroe of the Island of Jamaica), his Wife and Children (bred up in the Religion of the Church of England, and naturalized), to be Witnesses in Civil Cases; and that no Slaves may be Evidences against them; and that they, on all Occasions, in the said Island, and in other Her Majesty's Plantations, may be tried by a Jury, as other Her Majesty's Subjects are to be tried:"

It is Ordered, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That this House shall be put into a Committee on the said Bill, on Wednesday next, at Twelve a Clock.

Writs of Mandamus and Quo Warranto, Bill.

Hodie 1^a vice lecta est Billa, intituled, "An Act for rendering the Proceedings upon Writs of Mandamus and Informations in the Nature of a Quo Warranto more speedy and effectual; and for the more easy trying and determining the Rights of Offices and Franchises, in Corporations and Boroughs."

Ordered, That the said Bill be read a Second Time To-morrow, the First Business; and that the Judges of Her Majesty's Court of Queen's Bench do then attend; and that all the Lords be summoned.
