Judges Reports on Private Bills, to be read in Course.

It is Ordered, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That all Reports which shall be made by the Judges, upon Petitions to this House for Private Bills, or upon Private Bills sent from the House of Commons, shall be read and considered in Course as they are delivered by the Judges, and not otherwise.

Hertford Highways, Bill.

The Lord Halifax reported from the Lords Committees, the Bill, intituled, "An Act for continuing the Acts formerly made, for repairing of the Highways in the County of Hertford," as fit to pass, without any Amendment.

Hodie 3^a vice lecta est Billa, intituled, "An Act for continuing the Acts formerly made, for repairing of the Highways in the County of Hertford."

The Question was put, "Whether this Bill shall pass?"

It was Resolved in the Affirmative.

Ordered, The Commons have Notice, that the Lords have agreed to the said Bill, without any Amendment.

Drake & al. Leave for a Bill.

After reading, and Consideration of, the Report made by Mr. Justice Tracy and Mr. Baron Price, relating to the Petition of Montagu Drake and others; praying Leave to bring in a Bill, for the Purposes in the Petition mentioned; and also upon the Order of Reference to them of the First Instant, to certify to whom the Surplus-money upon the Sale of the Estate in the Petition mentioned will go:

It is Ordered, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the Petitioners have hereby Leave given to bring in a Bill, according to the Prayer of the said Petition.

Wait's Consent to be a Trustee in Potts' Bill.

This Day, Mr. Charles Waite being called in, the Lord Keeper, by Direction of the House, asked him, "Whether he was willing to be a Trustee in the Bill, intituled, "An Act for Sale of so much of the Estate of William Potts Gentleman as will discharge his Brothers and Sisters Portions, and his Debts; and for confirming the Settlement made upon his Marriage with Anne his now Wife, as to the Residue of the Estate discharged of such Portions and Debts?"

Who thereupon declared his Consent to, and Acceptance of, the Trust mentioned in the said Bill, if the same should pass into a Law.

Annesley versus Dixon, in Error.

After hearing Counsel, for Francis Annesley, Plaintiff in a Writ of Error depending in this House, whereunto Henry Dixon is Defendant:

It is Ordered, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That this House will proceed to hear Counsel further thereupon on Saturday next, at Ten a Clock; and that all the Lords and Judges be summoned then to attend.

Message from H. C. to return Maule's and Aldworth's &c.

A Message from the House of Commons, by Sir Henry Dutton Colt and others:

To return the Bill, intituled, "An Act for empowering the Barons of the Court of Exchequer in Ireland to grant a Commission to some Persons in England, to administer to Thomas Maule Esquire, Remembrancer of the said Court, the usual Oaths for the due Execution of his Office; and to enable him to take the Oaths, and subscribe the Declaration, in the Court of Chancery in England, instead of those requisite to be taken and subscribed by the Laws of England and Ireland, in order to qualify him to execute the said Office;" and to acquaint this House, that they have agreed to the same, without any Amendment.

Thomas's Bill.

Hodie 2^a vice lecta est Billa, intituled, "An Act for settling the Estate of Daniel Thomas Gentleman, deceased, for the Benefit of his Wife and Children."

Ordered, That the Consideration of the said Bill be committed to the Lords following; (videlicet,)

Macintosh's Bill, for Sale of Lands at Cole Green.

Hodie 2^a vice lecta est Billa, intituled, "An Act to enable Trustees to sell several Lands at Cole-Green, within the Manor of Herting fordbury, in the County of Hertford, and the Manor of the Rectory of Herting fordbury aforesaid, late the Estate of Anne Winwood, deceased, for Payment of a Debt of Six Hundred Pounds, and Interest, due upon Mortgage and Bond or Specialty; and for laying out the Residue of the Money arising by such Sale in the Purchase of other Lands and Tenements, to be settled to the same Uses as the said Lands are now settled."

Fornhill and Stony Stratford Highway Bill.

Ordered, That the Consideration of the said Bill be referred to the Lords Committees abovenamed.

Land Forces, &c. for recruiting, Bill.

Hodie 1^a vice lecta est Billa, intituled, "An Act for the better recruiting Her Majesty's Land Forces, and the Marines, for the Year One Thousand Seven Hundred and Seven."

Queen present.

Her Majesty, being seated on Her Royal Throne, adorned with Her Crown and Regal Ornaments, attended with Her Officers of State (the Peers being in their Robes), commanded the Deputy Gentleman Usher of the Black Rod to signify to the House of Commons, "That it is Her Majesty's Pleasure, they attend Her, presently, in the House of Peers."

Who being come, with their Speaker; the Clerk of the Crown read the Titles of the Bills to be passed, as follows; (videlicet,)

Bills passed.

"1. An Act for an Union of the Two Kingdoms of England and Scotland."

"2. An Act for rendering more effectual an Act, passed in the First Year of Her Majesty's Reign, intituled, An Act for the better preventing Escapes out of The Queen's Bench and Fleet Prisons."

"3. An Act for repairing the Highway between Hockliffe and Wooborne, in the County of Bedford."

"4. An Act for continuing the Acts formerly made, for repairing of the Highways in the County of Hertford."

Queen's Speech, concerning the Union.

Then Her Majesty was pleased to say as follows:

"My Lords, and Gentlemen,

"It is with the greatest Satisfaction that I have given my Assent to a Bill for uniting England and Scotland into One Kingdom.

"I consider this Union as a Matter of the greatest Importance to the Wealth, Strength, and Safety of the whole Island; and, at the same Time, as a Work of so much Difficulty and Nicety in its own Nature, that, till now, all Attempts which have been made towards it, in the Course of above a Hundred Years, have proved ineffectual: And therefore I make no Doubt, but it will be remembered and spoke of hereafter, to the Honour of those who have been instrumental in bringing it to such a happy Conclusion.

"I desire, and expect, from all My Subjects, of both Nations, that, from henceforth, they act with all possible Respect and Kindness to one another, that so it may appear to all the World, they have Hearts disposed to become One People.

"This will be a great Pleasure to Me, and will make us all quickly sensible of the good Effect of this Union.

"And I cannot but look upon it as a peculiar Happiness, that, in My Reign, so full a Provision is made for the Peace and Quiet of My People, and for the Security of our Religion, by so firm an Establishment of the Protestant Succession throughout Great Britain.

"Gentlemen of the House of Commons,

"I take this Occasion to remind you of making effectual Provision for the Payment of the Equivalent to Scotland, within the Time appointed by this Act; and, I am persuaded, you will the was much Readiness in this Particular, as you have done in all the other Parts of this great Work.

"My Lords, and Gentlemen,

"The Season of the Year being now pretty far advanced; I hope, you will continue the same Zeal, which has appeared throughout this Session, in dispatching what yet remains unfinished of the Public Business before you."

Then Her Majesty was pleased to withdraw; and the Commons returned to their House.

The House was adjourned during Pleasure, to unrobe.

The House was resumed.

The Lord Keeper reported Her Majesty's Speech.

Committee to draw an Address upon it.

Then, Lords Committees were appointed, to draw an humble Address, to be presented to Her Majesty, to return Her the humble Thanks of this House, for Her most Gracious Speech; and to assure Her Majesty, that this House will do all that in them lies, to make the Union have its intended Effect;" and report to the House; (videlicet,)
