L. Maynard takes his Seat.
This Day Banister Lord Maynard sat first in Parliament, upon the Death of his Father William Lord Maynard; and took the Oaths, and made and subscribed the Declaration, pursuant to the Statutes.
Scotch Settlement at Darien. King's Directions to the Governors in America about it, agreeable to the Address of this House.
After reading the Opinion of the Commissioners of Trade and Plantations, delivered by the Earl of Stamford, and the Spanish Ambassador's Memorial, concerning the Scotch Settlement at Darien; as also upon reading the Articles of Treaty with Spaine in 1670, relating to The West Indies, and the Address of this House to His Majesty, 13th December 1695, with His Majesty's Answer thereunto, and Debate hereupon; the House Resolved and Declared, That the King's Pleasure; signified to His Governors of the Plantations, in relation to the Scotch Settlement at Darien, was agreeable to the Address of both House of Parliament to His Majesty, dated the 13th December, 1695.
It is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the further Consideration of this Matter shall be adjourned to Tuesday next, at Eleven of the Clock in the Forenoon.
