Land Tax Bill.
The House was adjourned during Pleasure, and put into a Committee, upon the Bill, intituled, "An Act for granting to Their Majesties an Aid of Four Shillings in the Pound, for One Year, for carrying on a vigorous War against France."
The House was resumed.
Clause for Peers to assess themselves for Offices and Personal Estates.
And the Lord Godolphin reported, "That the Committee had gone through the Bill, without any Amendment, other than a Clause to be added, That the Peers assess themselves for their Offices and Personal Estates, and name a Collector of their own."
To which the House agreed; and the House named the Lords to be Commissioners.
ORDERED, That the Lord Godolphin draw the Clause against To-morrow Morning.
It is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the Aid Bill shall be read the Third Time To-morrow, at Ten of the Clock in the Forenoon.
Bellamy versus Glover et al.
Whereas this Day was appointed for hearing of the Cause wherein John Bellamy is Appellant, and John Glover and others Respondents:
It is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That this House will hear the said Cause, by Counsel on both Sides, at the Bar, on Tuesday the Four and Twentieth Day of this Instant January, at Ten of the Clock in the Forenoon.
Frequent Parliaments, Bill for.
Hodie 2a vice lecta est Billa, intituled, "An Act for frequent Calling and Meeting of Parliaments."
ORDERED, To be committed to a Committee of the whole House, presently.
Then the House was adjourned during Pleasure, and put into a Committee thereupon.
The House was resumed.
And the Lord Cornwallis reported, "That the Committee had gone on with the Bill, and desire the House will appoint a Committee to draw a Clause, that a Parliament meet and sit every Year; that there shall be a new Parliament every Three Years; and that a Blank be left in the Clause, for the Time for the Determination of this Parliament."
To which the House agreed; and ordered the Lords following to prepare a Clause accordingly:
Mr. Justice Rooksby to assist.
Their Lordships, or any Five of them; to meet To-morrow, at Nine of the Clock in the Forenoon, in the Prince's Lodgings near the House of Peers; and to adjourn as they please.
King's Answer about L.H. Steward.
The Lord Great Chamberlain reported His Majesty's Answer to the Address for a Lord High Steward: "That His Majesty will appoint a Lord High Steward, as desired, for the Trial of the Lord Mohun,"
