Ld. Byron takes his Seat.
This Day William Lord Byron sat first in Parliament, upon the Death of his Father William Lord Byron; and took the Oaths, and made and subscribed the Declaration, pursuant to the Statutes.
King present.
His Majesty, being arrayed in His Regal Robes and Crown, attended with His Officers of State, ascended His Royal Throne (the Peers being also in their Robes); commanded the Gentleman Usher of the Black Rod to signify to the Commons, "That it is His Majesty's Pleasure, they attend Him presently."
Who being come, with their Speaker; made a short Speech, relating to the Bill to be passed.
Then the Clerk Assistant (the Clerk of the Parliaments being indisposed) received the Bill from the Hands of the Speaker, and brought it to the Table; where the Clerk of the Crown read the Title, as followeth; (videlicet,)
Bills passed.
"1. An Act for enlarging the Times to come in and purchase certain Annuities therein mentioned; and for continuing the Duties formerly charged on Low Wines, or Spirits of the First Extraction, for carrying on the War against France."
To which Bill the Royal Assent was pronounced in these Words; (videlicet,)
"Le Roy remercie ses bons Subjects, accepte leur Benevolence, et ainsi le veult."
In like Manner the Bills following were passed:
"2. An Act for regulating of Trials, in Cases of Treason and Misprision of Treason."
"3. An Act for remedying the ill State of the Coin of the Kingdom."
"4. An Act for preventing Charge and Expence in Elections of Members to serve in Parliament."
To which Bills the Royal Assent was pronounced in these Words,
"Le Roy le veult."
"5. An Act for enabling the Lady Katherine Fane to sell the Reversion of certain Fee-farm Rents, given to her by her Grandfather John Bence Esquire."
"6. An Act for enabling Sir Thomas Parkyns Baronet to sell certain Messuages, Lands, and Hereditaments, in Huby and Easingwould, in the County of Yorke; and for settling other Lands and Hereditaments, of greater Value, in Lieu thereof."
"7. An Act to enable Sir Thomas Pope Blount Baronet to make a Settlement, upon the Marriage of his Eldest Son."
"8. An Act for vesting the Manor of Madeley, in the County of Salop, in Trustees, for certain Purposes therein mentioned."
"9. An Act for the enabling Thomas Stoner Esquire (Son and Heir of John Stoner Esquire, deceased) to make a Jointure and Settlement of his Estate in Marriage, notwithstanding his Minority."
"10. An Act for vesting several Messuages and Lands belonging to Samuel Powell Esquire in Trustees, for Payment of his Debts."
To these Bills the Royal Assent was pronounced thus; (videlicet,)
"Soit fait come il est desiré."
Then His Majesty was pleased to withdraw; and the Commons went to their House.
Double Returns, &c. to prevent, Bill.
Whereas this Day was appointed for the House to be put into a Committee, upon the Bill, intituled, "An Act to prevent false and double Returns of Members to serve in Parliament:"
It is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the House shall be put into a Committee thereupon, on Thursday next, at Eleven of the Clock in the Forenoon.
Adjourn.
