E. of Sandwich takes the Oaths.
This Day Edward Earl of Sandwich took the Oaths, and made and subscribed the Declaration, pursuant to the Statute, upon his First Sitting in Parliament.
Messages from H. C. with Bills, and to return Mountague's.
A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Mr. Mountagu and others:
To return the Bill, intituled, "An Act for the vesting and settling divers Lands in Gloucestershire in Trustees, to be sold, for the Payment of the remaining Portions to the Children of George Mountagu Esquire, deceased;" to which they have agreed, without any Amendment.
A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Mr. Christy and others:
Who brought up Two Bills; the one, intituled, "An Act to enable William Daville to sell some Lands, for Payment of Debts."
The other, intituled, "An Act for the better enabling the Trustees and Executors of Richard Campian deceased, to perform his Will."
To which Bills they desire their Lordships Concurrence.
The House was adjourned during Pleasure, to robe.
The House was resumed.
King present.
His Majesty, being arrayed in His Royal Robes and Royal Crown, ascended His Throne, all the Peers being in their Robes: The Gentleman Usher of the Black Rod was commanded to signify His Majesty's Pleasure to the Commons, "That they presently attend His Majesty."
Who being come; the Speaker made a short Speech, relating to the Bill of Excise to be passed.
Then the Clerk of the Parliaments received the following Bill from the Hand of the Speaker, and brought it to the Table, where the Clerk of the Crown read the Title; videlicet,
Bills passed.
"1. An Act for granting to Their Majesties certain Impositions upon Beer, Ale, and other Liquors, for One Year."
The Clerk of the Parliaments pronounced the Royal Assent in these Words,
"Le Roy et la Reyne, remerciant les bon Subjects, acceptant leur Benevolence, et ainsi le veulent."
In like Manner the Bills following were passed:
"2. An Act for the abrogating the Oath of Supremacy in Ireland, and appointing other Oaths."
"3. An Act for preserving Two Ships Lading of Bay Salt, taken as Prize, for the Benefit of Their Majesties Navy."
"4. An Act for the better ascertaining the Tithes of Hemp and Flax."
To which Bills the Royal Assent was pronounced in these Words,
"Le Roy et (fn. 1) la Reyne le veulent."
"5. An Act for the making a Twelve Years Lease, made by the Earl and Countess of Ailesbury for Payment of Debts (which was determinable upon their Deaths), to have Continuance absolutely for those Twelve Years."
"6. An Act for the settling a Fee Farm Rent of One Hundred Pounds per Annum upon the Bishop of Ely and his Successors, to be issuing out of Hatton Garden, in the County of Midd'x, and the Messuages thereupon erected; and for settling and assuring the same, subject to the said Rent, upon Christopher Lord Viscount Hatton, his Heirs and Assigns, for ever."
"7. An Act to enable the Executors and Trustees of Sir Thomas Putt Baronet, deceased, to lease several Messuages, Lands, Tenements, and Hereditaments, during the Minority of Sir Thomas Putt Baronet, Son and Heir of the said Sir Thomas Putt, towards the Payment of Five Hundred Pounds apiece Legacies to his Three Sisters, Margarett, Ursula, and Susanna Putt, as also the Debts of the said Sir Thomas Putt the Father."
"8. An Act for naturalizing Sir Martin Beckman and others."
"9. An Act for the vesting and settling divers Lands in Gloucestershire in Trustees, to be sold, for the paying of the remaining Portions to the Children of George Mountagu Esquire, deceased."
"10. An Act for Sale of the Manor and Lands in Wittering, in the County of North'ton, and the Advowson of the Church of Wittering aforesaid, late the Inheritance of William Stydolfe Esquire, deceased, late Father of Sigismond Stydolfe Esquire."
"11. An Act for settling a Jointure upon Jane the Wife of Colonel Edward Mathews, Daughter of Sir Thomas Armstrong deceased."
To which Bills the Royal Assent was pronounced in these Words,
"Soit fait come il est desiré."
Which being done; then His Majesty withdrew; and the Commons went to their House.
Trials for Treason, Bill.
It is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the Committee appointed to draw Reasons for insisting on their Lordships Proviso (A) to the Bill, intituled, "An Act for regulating Trials in Cases of Treason," shall meet, or any Three of them, on Monday next, at Ten of the Clock in the Forenoon, in the Prince's Lodgings near the House of Peers.
East India Company Regulations.
It is ORDERED, That the adjourned Debate Yesterday, concerning the Printed Votes of the House of Commons of the Eighteenth Instant, relating to the regulating of the East India Company, shall be adjourned to Tuesday next, at Ten of the Clock in the Forenoon.
