Bampfield versus Popham.
The House being moved, on the Behalf of Alexander Popham, "That a longer Day may be appointed for hearing the Cause, wherein Warwick Bampfeild is Plaintiff, and he Defendant:"
It is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That this House will hear the said Cause, by Counsel on both Sides, at the Bar, on Friday the 28th Day of June instant, at Ten of the Clock in the Forenoon.
Percy discharged.
ORDERED, That James Percy be hereby discharged from his present Restraint, having suffered the Judgement of this House.
Lampen versus Clobery.
Upon hearing Counsel this Day at the Bar, upon the Petition of Ezechiell Lampen Executor and Residuary Legatee of William Clobery deceased, complaining of a Decree obtained against him, on the Behalf of Oliver Clobery, wherein he is decreed to pay the Arrears and growing Interest of Five Hundred Pounds Half-yearly, and to give Security in Chancery by Recognizance to continue the Payment thereof; as also upon the Answer of Oliver Cloberry put in thereunto:
After due Consideration had of what was offered by Counsel on both Sides thereupon, it is ORDERED and Adjudged, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the Petition of Ezechiell Lampen Executor and Residuary Legatee of William Cloberry be, and is hereby, dismissed this House; and that the Decree from which he appealed to this House be, and is hereby, affirmed.
College of Physicians, Bill.
Upon reading the Petition of the President and the ancient Fellows of the College of Physicians, London; praying, "That they may be heard, before the passing of a Bill, intituled, An Act for the better establishing the College of Physicians in London, do pass:"
It is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That this House will hear Counsel for the Petitioners, against the said Bill, on Saturday next, at Ten of the Clock in the Forenoon.
ORDERED, That the Committee for the Bill concerning Leather do meet on Saturday next.
Droitwich Salt-works Bill.
Hodie 3a vice lecta est Billa, "An Act for the better regulating the Salt-works in Droitwitch."
The Question was put, "Whether this Bill shall pass for a Law?"
It was Resolved in the Affirmative.
Message to H. C. with it.
A Message was sent to the House of Commons, by Sir Miles Cooke and Mr. Meredith:
To deliver to them the Bill, intituled, "An Act for the better regulating the (fn. 2) Salt-workers in Droitwitch;" and desire their Concurrence thereunto.
Serjeant Ingleby, a Papist, attached for pleading;
The House being informed, "That Serjeant Ingleby, being a Papist, is pleading at the Common Pleas Bar, in Westminster Hall, being contrary to the Act of Parliament lately passed for amoving all Papists, or reputed Papists, out of the Cities of London and Westminster:"
Hereupon it is ORDERED, That the Gentleman Usher of the Black Rod attending this House, his Deputy and Deputies, do forthwith attach the Body of Mr. Serjeant Ingleby, and bring him in safe Custody to the Bar of this House, to answer such Matters as should be objected against him.
To Sir Thomas Duppa, Gentleman Usher of the Black Rod, &c.
Serjeant Ingleby appeared at the Bar.
and discharged.
And being asked, "How he comes to be in Town, being a Papist, contrary to an Act of Parliament; and plead in Westm. Hall?"
He said, "He had taken Notice of such an Act; but he conceived he was excepted out of the Penalty, because he is an Inhabitant in London, and hath been so for many Years, not having any Habitation elsewhere."
He being withdrawn, it is ORDERED, That the said Serjeant Ingleby be, and is hereby, discharged from his present Restraint; and this shall be a sufficient Warrant on that Behalf.
