Lords take the Oaths.

These Lords following took the Oaths of Supremacy and Allegiance, and subscribed the Declaration, in Pursuance of the Act for the more effectual preserving the King's Person and Government, by disabling Papists from sitting in either House of Parliament:

Henry Earl of Arlington, Lord Chamberlain of His Majesty's Household.

Memorandum, That the Lord Chamberlain took the Oaths and Tests prescribed by the Two Acts of Parliament made in the 25 and 30 Years of the Reign of King Charles the Second.

King's Answer to the Address of both Houses.

The Lord Keeper reported, "That both Houses waited Yesterday upon His Majesty, and presented Him with their humble and hearty Thanks for His Gracious Speech; and His Majesty was pleased to return this Gracious Answer, to this Effect:

"That His Majesty was very well pleased with their Thanks, and that He could repeat no more than what He had said in the Morning: That He would make good His Promise; and did not doubt but, with the Assistance of both Houses, to maintain the Government against all Rebels and Traitors."

Esselbron & al. Nat. Bill.

Hodie 1a vice lecta est Billa, intituled, "An Act for naturalizing of John Esselbron, Otto Geertz, David Beceler, and others."

Address to the King, that the Lords will assist Him against the D. of Argyle.

His Majesty having graciously imparted to this House, "That He is informed that the late Earl of Argyle, attainted of Treason, with divers other Rebels, are landed in Scotland, and in actual Rebellion:"

It is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That this House do wait upon His Majesty, to give Him humble Thanks, for imparting the same to this House; and humbly to offer to assist His Majesty with their Lordships Lives and Fortunes, against the said Rebels, and all other His Majesty's Enemies whatsoever.

Upon this, the House appointed the Lords with the White Staves presently to attend His Majesty, to know what Time He will please to appoint this House to wait upon Him, to present this humble Address.

King to be attended with it.

The Lords with the White Staves reported, "That His Majesty had appointed this Afternoon, at Five of the Clock, in the Banqueting House at Whitehall, for this House to attend Him."

Bill to prevent Minors Clandestine Marriages.

Hodie 2a vice lecta est Billa, "An Act disabling Minors to marry without the Consent of their Fathers or Guardians, and against their untimely marrying after the Decease of their Fathers."

Wingate versus Astrey.

Upon reading the Petition of Sir Francis Wingate and Lettice Wingate Widow, being an Appeal from a Decree made in Chancery, on Exceptions taken by your Petitioners to a Decree made by the Commissioners of Charitable Uses, on the Behalf of the Poor of Harlington; shewing, "That Sir James Astrey the Prosecutor, and others therein named, being, by the Commissioners Decree, Trustees of certain Parcels of Land in Harlington, at Five Pounds Nine Shillings per Annum Value, and they decreed to pay the Arrears for Forty Years backwards; and praying, That they may be relieved:"

It is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the said Sir James Astrey, and the other Respondents in the said Court of Chancery, may have a Copy of the said Petition; and be, and are hereby, required to put in an Answer thereunto in Writing, at the Bar of this House, on Saturday next, being the 30th of this Instant May, at Ten of the Clock in the Forenoon; and hereof they may not fail.

Fitton versus L. Gerard, now E. of Macclesfield.

Upon reading the Petition and Appeal of Alexander Fitton Esquire, from a Decree made in the Court of Chancery, in a Cause there depending about Three and Twenty Years since, wherein the Right Honourable Charles Lord Gerard (now Earl of Macclesfeld) was Plaintiff, against William Fitton your Petitioner's Father, and your now Petitioner, and others, Defendants, and praying Relief:

It is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the said Petition of the said Alexander Fitton be, and is hereby, referred to the Lords Committees for Petitions; whose Lordships are to consider thereof, and to examine the whole State of Proceedings in this Case formerly had, in this House, or any other Court; and to make Report of what they shall think fit to be done thereupon to this House.

Lady Dacre versus Chute.

Upon reading the Petition of Dorothy Lady Dacre, complaining (amongst other Things) of an Order of this House, the 26th of November, 1680, and several Proceedings in the High Court of Chancery thereupon; and praying, "That the said Order made in Behalf of Chaloner Chute Esquire, with the Circumstances of her Case, may be considered, and the relieved:"

It is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the said Petition this Day presented and read be, and is hereby, referred to the Consideration of the Lords Committees for Petitions; who are to consider of the said Petition and Complaints therein, and make Report thereof to this House.

Barret versus Desmener.

Upon reading the Petition and Appeal of the Honourable Richard Barret, of Bellbouse, in the County of Essex, Esquire, from a Decree made in the High Court of Chancery in Ireland, in a Cause there depending, wherein John Desmener was Plaintiff, against your Petitioner and his Two Sons Defendants; shewing, "That the said Decree was made on or about the 15th of February1683, and praying the Reversal of the said Decree, and other Matters therein set forth:"

It is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the said John Desmener may have a Copy of the said Petition and Appeal, and be, and is hereby, required to put in an Answer thereunto in Writing, at the Bar of this House, on Saturday the Fourth Day of July next, at Ten of the Clock in the Forenoon; and hereof he may not fail, as the contrary will be answered by him to this House: It is also further ORDERED, That all Proceedings in the said Cause in the Court of Chancery in Ireland be stayed, until it shall be determined by this House.

Eliz. Hervey versus Sir T. Hervey.

Upon reading the Petition of Mrs. Elizabeth Hervey, complaining of a Decree in Chancery:

It is ORDERED, That Sir Thomas Hervey may have a Copy of the Petition, and may put in an Answer on Saturday the 30th Day of this Instant May, if he shall think fit.
