Message to H. C. for a Conference about the Method of Trial of the impeached Lords.

A Message was sent to the House of Commons, by Sir Edward Loe and Sir Samuell Clerke:

To desire a Free Conference, presently, in the Painted Chamber, upon the Matter of the late Conference they had with the Lords, concerning the Forms and Methods of Proceedings to be had at the Trials of the Lords in The Tower.

These Lords following were appointed to be Managers of this Free Conference:

L. Chancellor.
L. President.
L. Privy Seal.
E. of Salisbury.
E. Clarendon.
E. Essex.
E. Aylesbury.
Vicecomes Fauconberg.
Vicecomes Halyfax.
L. Berkeley.
L. Howard de Esc.
L. Gerrard.

Answer.

The Messengers return with this Answer from the House of Commons:

That they agree to a present Conference, as is desired.

The House was adjourned during Pleasure, and the Lords went to the Free Conference; which being ended, the House was resumed.

Report of the Conference.

The Lord President, and the rest of the Lords that were Managers, reported, "That the Lords asked the Commons, What those Forms and Methods were in Reference to the Trials of the Lords in The Tower which they desired to confer about? Of which the Commons say, They were not instructed to discourse, because they expected this Free Conference was to be concerning a Committee of both Houses, touching which their Lordships have given them yet no Denial: Therefore, the Commons said, they must resort to their House, for Directions herein."

Message from H. C. for another Conference about Committees meeting.

A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Mr. Thynn and others:

To desire a Free Conference, upon the Subject-matter of the last Free Conference.

The Answer returned was:

Answer.

That the Lords agree to a Free Conference, as is desired; and appoint the same to be presently, in the Painted Chamber.

The same Lords who managed the last Free Conference are appointed to report this.

The House was adjourned during Pleasure, and the Lords went to the Conference; which being ended, the House was resumed.

Report of it.

Then the Lord President gave the House an Account of the Free Conference, with the several Debates pro and con on both Sides:

Upon Consideration whereof, it is ORDERED, That a Committee of this House shall be appointed to meet with a Committee of the House of Commons, to consider of Propositions and Circumstances, in Reference to the Trials of the Lords in The Tower.

Committee to meet with one of H. C. to consider of Circumstances concerning the Trials of the impeached Lords.

Then these Lords were nominated and appointed a Committee for that Purpose; (videlicet,)

L. Chancellor.
L. President of the Council.
Lord Privy Seal.
Marq. Winchester.
E. of Salisbury.
E. of Clarendon.
E. of Essex.
E. of Aylesbury.
Vicecomes Hallyfax.
Vicecomes Newport.
L. Wharton.
L. Holles.

Their Lordships, or any Five of them; to meet To-morrow Morning, at Nine of the Clock, in the Inner Court of Wards; and have Power to send for such Books and Persons as they think fit; and to adjourn from Time to Time, as shall be thought fit.

Court of Requests to be fitted for the Meeting of the Committees.

ORDERED, That the Lord Great Chamberlain be desired to give Order for the preparing of the Inner Court of Wards fit for a Committee of Lords and Commons, To-morrow, at Nine of the Clock in the Forenoon.

Message to H. C. to acquaint them with it.

A Message was sent to the House of Commons, by Sir Edward Loe and Sir Samuell Clerke:

To let them know, That the Lords have appointed a Committee, consisting of Twelve Lords, to join with a Committee of the House of Commons, at Nine of the Clock To-morrow Morning, in the Inner Court of Wards, to consider of Propositions and Circumstances, in Reference to the Trials of the Lords in The Tower.

Adjourn.
