Lords take the Oaths.
This Day Christopher Duke of Albemarle, and Henry Earl of Arlington Lord Chamberlain of His Majesty's Household, took the Oaths of Supremacy and Allegiance; and subscribed the Declaration against Transubstantiation; pursuant to the Act for preventing the Dangers which may happen from Popish Recusants. The Witnesses were sworn, and examined by the Lord Chancellor, as to the Truth of their Lordships Certificates concerning their receiving of the LORD'S Supper.
Bp. Winton's Privilege. Dallow versus Grove.
Upon reading the Petition of Edward Dallow Gentleman, Auditor to the Lord Bishop of Winchester, complaining of a Breach of Privilege, committed by William Grove, and John Stannard an Attorney (or Solicitor), sueing him to the Outlawry, without Notice, and seizing his Goods, contrary to Privilege, the said Edward Dal- low being owned by the Lord Bishop of Winchester to be Servant:
It is thereupon ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the said William Grove and John Stannard be, and are hereby, required to appear at the Bar of this House, to answer to the said Complaint, on Monday the 27th Day of this Instant May, at Ten of the Clock in the Forenoon; and hereof they may not fail.
Lawrence versus Berney.
Whereas John Berney Esquire was, by Order of the Tenth Instant, required to put in an Answer in Writing on this Day, to the Petition of Thomas Laurance, Carina Hetly, and Thomas Rolt, depending in this House against him; which he the said John Berney hath not done:
It is this Day ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the said John Berney be, and is hereby, required to put in his Answer in Writing to the said Petition, peremptorily, within Three Days next after Notice given him of this Order, by leaving a Copy thereof at his Place of Abode; and hereof he may not fail.
Intestates Estates, and clandestine Marriages, Judges to prepare Bills.
ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the Lord Chief Justice of the Court of Common Pleas be, and is hereby, appointed to consider of the Act passed in 22° and 23° Carol. 2di, intituled, "An Act for the better settling of "Intestates Estates" (which is near expiring); and to prepare a Bill to be presented to this House for the Continuance of the said Act; and also to prepare a Bill for preventing clandestine and other irregular Marriages, to be likewise presented to this House.
For the better Preservation of King's Person, Judges to prepare a Bill.
ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the Judges be, and are hereby, appointed to inspect the Act passed in 13° Caroli. 2di, intituled, "An Act for the Safety and Preservation of His Majesty's Person and Government, against treasonable and seditious Practices and Attempts;" and to consider whether it be necessary to make any Supplement thereunto, for the better Preservation of His Majesty's Person and Government; and make Report thereof unto this House.
Protestant Strangers Relief, Bill.
Hodie 2a vice lecta est Billa, "An Act for providing Relief for poor Protestant Strangers."
ORDERED, That the Consideration of this Bill is committed to these Lords following:
Their Lordships, or any Five of them; to meet on Monday Morning next, at Nine, in the Prince's Lodgings; and to adjourn as they please.
