Cresset's Bill.

Hodie 1a vice lecta est Billa, "An Act for vesting the Capital Messuage, or Mansion-house, of Bodvile, and the Demesnes thereof, and divers other Lands and Tenements and Hereditaments, in the County of Carnarvon and the Island of Anglesey, in Robert Stapilton Esquire and his Heirs, in Trust for John Cresset Gentleman and his Heirs for ever."

Heads for securing the Protestant Religion.

The House was adjourned into a Committee, to proceed in Consideration of Heads for a Bill for securing the Protestant Religion.

The House was resumed.

And the Earl of North'ton reported, "That the Committee have been in Consideration of that Head (fn. 1) concerns the suppressing of Blasphemy and Prophaneness; and are of Opinion, That there be a particular Bill to suppress this Evil: To that Purpose, the House is desired that a Committee of a few Lords may be appointed, to prepare a Bill for the Suppression of the horrid Sins of Atheism, Prophaneness, and Blasphemy, with such severe Punishments as may make the Bill effectual."

The House agreed to this Report; and named these Lords following to be a Committee for that Purpose:

Then the House was adjourned into a Committee again, to proceed in the Heads to secure the Protestant Religion.

The House being resumed;

The Earl of North'ton reported, "That the Committee desires that Friday next may be appointed for the House to be in a Committee again concerning this Business."

Which the House ordered accordingly.

Taylor sent for, for Blasphemy.

A Paper was presented to the House, being Examinations taken by some Justices of Peace in the County of Surrey, concerning some Blasphemous Speeches spoken by John Taylor, now a Prisoner in the Gaol at Guildford.

Which Paper being read, the House ordered as followeth; videlicet,

"Whereas John Taylor, now a Prisoner in the Gaol of Guildford, in the County of Surrey, for uttering Blasphemous Words, is to be brought to the Bar of this House on Friday Morning next, at Ten of the Clock: It is ORDERED, That Doctor Windebanke, and Edward Ford Mayor of Guildford, Thomas Canfield, Henry Flutter, William Sambick, Martin Neale, and such other Persons as did either take or give any Information concerning the said John Taylor, be, and are hereby, required to attend this House at the Time aforesaid."

ORDERED, That the Serjeant at Arms attending this House, or his Deputy, shall bring in safe Custody to the Bar of this House on Friday next, at Ten of the Clock in the Forenoon, the Body of John Taylor, now Prisoner in the Gaol at Guildford, in the County of Surrey, for Blasphemous Words by him uttered; and this shall be a sufficient Warrant on that Behalf.

To the Serjeant at Arms attending this House, his Deputy and Deputies; and also to the Gaoler or Keeper of the Gaol at Guildford, and his Deputies and Under-officers; as also to all Mayors, Sheriffs, Bailiffs, Constables, and other His Majesty's Officers, to be aiding and assisting in the Execution hereof.

Hallet versus Kendall.

This House being moved, on the Behalf of Thomas Kendall, "That the Hearing of the Cause depending in this House, between him and Mary Hallet Widow, may be put off, from Friday the 14th of this Instant May, on which Day it was appointed to be heard:"

It is ORDERED, That this House will hear Counsel on both Parts, in the said Cause, on Thursday the 20th Day of this Instant May, at Ten of the Clock in the Forenoon; whereof the said Thomas Kendall is to cause timely Notice to be given to the said Mary Hallet for that Purpose.

Dutchess of Cleveland, Privilege: Channell released.

Whereas John Channell Plumber, being a Prisoner under the Custody of the Gentleman Usher of the Black Rod, for his Contempt of an Order of this House made concerning him, was this Day brought to the Bar, where he received the Reprehension of this House for his said Offence:

It is ORDERED, That the said John Channell be, and is hereby, discharged from any further Restraint for his said Contempt, paying his Fees due to the Officers of this House; and this shall be a sufficient Warrant on that Behalf.

E. of Strafford versus Eyres, for Scandal.

Upon reading the Paper, or Case, intituled, The Case of William Eyres Esquire, complained of as a scandalous Paper by the Earl of Strafford:

It is ORDERED, That the Examination of the Matter of Calumny in the said Paper, or Case, is hereby referred to the Committee for Privileges, who are to make Report thereof unto the House.

ORDERED, That a Bill concerning Manufactures shall be read the First Time To-morrow Morning.
