The Earl of Dover reported, "That the Committee for the Bill for naturalizing Phillip Lloyd have considered the same, and think it fit to pass as it is."

The Question being put, "Whether this Bill shall pass?"

It was Resolved in the Affirmative.

Duty of Aliens, for taking off, Bill.

Hodie 2^a vice lecta est Billa, "An Act for taking off Duty of Aliens upon Commodities of the Growth, Product, and Manufacture, of the Nation."

ORDERED, That the Consideration of this Bill be committed to these Lords following:

Their Lordships, or any Five; to meet on Monday Morning next, at Nine of the Clock, in the Prince's Lodgings.

Naturalization Bill.

The Committee for the Bill of General Naturalization are to meet on Monday Morning next, at Nine of the Clock.

The Committee for the Bill concerning Sir John Hanham are to meet on Monday Morning next, at Nine of the Clock.

E. of Rochester and L. Dunbar, Quarrel.

According to the Order of this House made Yesterday, Henry Earl of Norwich, Earl Marshal of England, brought in the Earl of Rochester; who being in his Place as a Peer, the Lord Chancellor told the Earl of Rochester, "That the House was informed of an intended Duel between him and the Lord Viscount Dunbar of the Kingdom of Scotland; that the House hath approved of what the Earl Marshal hath done therein; and did order him to be brought this Morning, to give an Account of it to this House."

His Lordship said, "That none had accused him of any such Thing; and until he hath been accused, he hoped their Lordships will not expect that he should be his own Accuser."

Upon this, the Earl Marshal acquainted the House how he came to have the First Notice of the Intention of this Duel; and gave the House the Reasons for which he had taken them into his Custody, and detained a Peer of this Realm in his Hands, the Parliament sitting; which was occasioned by the Lord Bellasis; whose Lordship gave the House an Account how he came to have Knowledge of it.

Then the House commanded the Lord Viscount Dunbar to be brought to the Bar (but kneeled not); and the Lord Chancellor told him what Information the House had Yesterday from the Earl Marshal, of an intended Duel between him and the Earl of Rochester, for which the House ordered the Earl of Rochester to be brought to his Place as a Peer, and his Lordship to be brought to the Bar, to give an Account thereof.

Upon which, the Lord Viscount Dunbar said, "He sent no Challenge to the Earl of Rochester; and that he was very good Friends with his Lordship; and he was very ready to submit to the Commands of this Honourable House in this Case."

And then his Lordship withdrew.

Then the House took Consideration of this Business; and ORDERED, That these Two Lords should engage themselves, by Promise to this House, not to proceed any further in this Business.

Upon which, the Lord Viscount Dunbar was called in again to the Bar; and the Earl of Rochester standing in his Place, the Lord Chancellor told them both, "That this House being informed by the Earl Marshal of an intended Duel between them, their Lordships are satisfied of such an Intention, and have approved of what the Earl Marshal hath done in securing them hitherto; and, for preventing any further Proceeding in this Business, the Lords have directed him to lay the Commands of this House upon them both, not to proceed further in this Difference between them, but that they be Friends, and engage themselves by Promise to this House for the same."

Upon this, the Lord Viscount Dunbar said, "My Lords, I promise to obey your Commands."

And the Earl of Rochester said, "My Lords, I will obey your Commands."

Upon which, it was ORDERED, That the Earl Marshal shall discharge the Earl of Rochester and the Lord Viscount Dunbar and others under his Restraint concerning this Business.

Dr. Salmon versus the Hamburgh Company.

Upon hearing Counsel this Day at the Bar, as well upon the Petition of Peter Salmon, Doctor of Physic, One of the Creditors of the Corporation of the Merchant Adventurers of England, commonly called the Hambrough Company, as also for the said Company:

After Consideration had of the Case of the said Peter Salmon and others; Creditors of the said Company, it is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the Lord Chancellor of England, the Marquis of Worcester, the Lord Steward of His Majesty's Household, the Earl of Dorsett, Earl of Salisbury, Earl of Bridgwater, Earl of North'ton, Earl of Devonshire, Earl of Bristoll, Earl of Clare, Earl of Bollingbrooke, Earl of Craven, Earl of Aylsebury, the Lord Bishop of Rochester, Lord Berkeley of Berkley, Lord Petre, Lord Newport, Lord Holles, Lord Cornwallis, Lord Delamer, and Lord Arundell of Treric, be, and are hereby, appointed a Committee; whose Lordships, or any Five of them, are to meet on Monday next, the 24th of March Instant, at Three in the Afternoon, in the Prince's Lodgings, and are to be assisted by the Judges now in Town, to consider what Relief may be given to the said Creditors by the Judicial Power of this House, as the Case now stands; or, if not so, what Relief may be given by Act of Parliament; and whether, the said Company having so highly contemned the Justice of the Nation, it may not be thought fit that an Information or Quo Warranto be brought against them, for the Dissolving the said Company; and that the said Committee be attended by the said Creditors and Company on Monday next, and at such other Times as their Lordships shall appoint, who are to make Report unto the House.

Message to H. C. to sit P. M.

A Message was sent to the House of Commons, by Sir William Beversham and Sir William Lowe:

To let them know, that in regard His Majesty hath acquainted the Lords with His Intention of a Recess on Thursday next, their Lordships intend to sit this Afternoon, for the Dispatch of those Businesses of Importance that are before them, and desire that the House of Commons would sit likewise.

Rivers Parrot and Thone navigable Bill.

The Earl of Bridgwater reported, "That the Committee have considered the Bill for making the Rivers of Parrott and Thone navigable; and do think it fit to pass, with some Amendments, and a Proviso to be added."

Which Amendments and Proviso, being read Twice, were Agreed; and the Bill ordered to be engrossed accordingly.

Protestant Dissenters Bill.

Hodie 2^a vice lecta est Billa, "An Act for the Ease of His Majesty's Protestant Subjects, Dissenters from the Church of England."

ORDERED, That the Consideration of this Bill is committed to a Committee of the whole House.

To this End, the House was adjourned during Pleasure.

The House was resumed.

Then the Earl of Bridgwater reported, "That the Committee of the whole House have read the Bill for Ease of Dissenters; and the Committee desires that they may sit again upon the said Bill on Monday Morning next."

Which the House ordered accordingly.

Lady Read versus Sir J Read her Husband.

Upon reading the Petition of Dame Alissimon Read, Wife to Sir John Read Baronet, setting forth, "the cruel Usage she hath received from the said Sir John Read; and that, by Judgement of a Court of Delegates, she is divorced from her said Husband, and he condemned in Arrears of Alimony to Twelve Hundred Sixty and Five Pounds, and in Three Hundred and Ninety Pounds per Annum for her future Alimony, and her Costs of Suit; and that the said Sir John Read standeth out in Contempt of all the Proceedings at Law against him; and therefore she prays Relief:"

It is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That this House will take the said Petition into Consideration on the First Tuesday of the Sitting of this House next after Easter; on which Day the said Sir John Read is hereby required personally to appear, at the Bar of this House, at Ten of the Clock in the Forenoon: And it is further ORDERED, That a Copy of this Order, left at the Dwelling-house of the said Sir John Reade, at Dunstew, in Oxfordshire, and a like Copy at Brocketts Hall, in Hertfordshire, shall be a sufficient Notice given, in order to the said Sir John Read's appearing at this Bar at the Time aforesaid.
