The Lord Chief Justice of the Court of Common Pleas sat Speaker this Day, in the Absence of the Lord Keeper.

Bill for repairing Highways.

The Duke of Richmond reported, "That the Committee have considered of the Bill for repairing of Highways and Bridges, and have made some Alterations and Amendments; which are offered to the Consideration of the House."

The said Amendments and Alterations were read Twice, and some Amendments made at the Table, and Agreed to.

Hodie 3a vice lecta est Billa, "An additional Act for the better repairing of Highways and Bridges."

The Question being put, "Whether this Bill, with the Amendments and Alterations now read, shall pass?"

It was Resolved in the Affirmative.

Message from H. C. with Bills.

A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Sir Jonathan Trelawny and others; who brought up these Bills:

1. A Bill to enable the King's Majesty to make Leases, Grants, and Copies of Offices, Tenements, Hereditaments, Parcel of His Highness' Dutchy of Cornwall, or annexed to the same.

2. He returned the Bill for naturalizing of Captain Christopher Gunman, with their Lordships Addition of Names, to which they agree; and that they wave their Additions to the said Bill.

Message to them, with a Bill.

A Message was sent to the House of Commons, by Sir Mundyford Brampston and Sir Nathaniell Hobart:

To deliver to them the Bill concerning repairing of Highways, and desire their Concurrence to the same.

Imposition on Brandy Bill.

According to Order Yesterday, the House heard the Counsel of the Merchants, Importers of Brandy, at the Bar, and also the Counsel of the Commissioners or Farmers of the Excise, concerning the Bill for settling the Imposition on Brandy.

And, after some Consideration, it is ORDERED, That, upon Saturday Morning next, the Report of the Conference with the House of Commons concerning the Bill against Conventicles shall be made, the First Business; and next after that, this House will resume the Debate of this Business heard by Counsel at the Bar; and no other Business to intervene.

King did not withdraw, when Counsel were called in.

Memorandum, That His Majesty did not withdraw Himself, but sat in His Chair, and heard the Counsel at the Bar, concerning the Bill for settling an Imposition upon Brandy.

Leigh's Bill.

ORDERED, That the Committee for the Bill concerning Mr. Leigh shall meet at the Rising of the House.

Adjourn.
